We are currently searching for high quality jpeg photos (landscape orientation) to feature in our upcoming 2017/2018 calendar. The calendar will run from July 2017 - Dec. 2018. The proceeds from sales go to the Kipawa Lake Preservation Society to help cover our operating costs, continued awareness initiatives and water quality testing. If you'd like to submit a photo please do so via email savekipawalake@gmail.com, for higher resolution photos (which are preferred) a dropbox, google drive or similar may be required to share your photos. You must be the photographer and provide permission to use the photo or submit along with the photo written permission for use from the photographer. If you have photos to submit please do so as soon as possible as we hope to have the calendars assembled, printed and ready for sale by May 18th.
Our focus is on show casing the natural beauty of the Kipawa area so please no photos of people holding fish, wildlife and landscape shots are preferred. We require season coverage and typically have difficulty finding winter, fall and spring photos.

I sent you an email with the following pictures. The dock picture is from an old dock near the outpost cabin of Taggart Bay Lodge. I may have higher quality copies saved on my camera if you decide to use either picture.

surprizing/eye opening in what way?
Quite a lot of info regarding the Water Quality web site. To me there appears to be some confusing statements throughout the report, but then I'm not a chemist and never heard of some of those chemicals. The one statement that stands out to me is " Mercury levels were found to exceed acceptable levels (>0.5mg/kg) in both Lake Trout and Walleye." Sounds like Lake Erie or The Ohio River, not Kipawa. I'm wondering what the recommended consumption of Kipawa lake trout or walleye is....without fear of getting sick? If it's like 5 lbs. a day who cares but if it's like... only eat once a week or so, the locals should take that into consideration. Speaking for myself, I could eat Kipawa walleye every day..... gotta die from something, eh?

So bioaccumulation of mercury in fish tissues can happen any where. The levels reported were from a published government study from a few years ago.
Quebec has guidelines on safe consumption levels for most lakes in Quebec including Kipawa.

so based on the recommendations meals twice a week of walleye in the 16-20" from lake Sas (closest sampling spot to Lake O) are safe... good to know.... all the more reason to drive a lil farther as far as I'm concerned, consume less mercury in your fish :-)

It was extremely difficult choosing only 12 photos. We had so many beautiful photos to choose from this year. Thank you to all who submitted photos. In many cases we loved your photos but could not use them in the calendar due to the size/orientation of the photo, low resolution or simply because we needed photos from various seasons. Typically we get many photos from the summer months but we only require a few of those for our calendar. We also like to show photos from various photographers, subject matter and lake regions, this year we had an over abundance of photos from Jawbone's Bay and chose to incorporate photos from various areas instead. Thank you again to all who submitted photos, you may still see your photo shared on our facebook page even if it wasn't used in our calendar.
We will be looking for photos again next winter so please keep this in mind when you are visiting the Kipawa area. We often have the hardest time finding fall and winter photos.

The mine is a very sensitive subject and some local owners may take this report and another light

Yes, the website has not been updated yet but we are only selling 2019 calendars at this time. So feel free to order even though it still says 2017/2018.
