Title: Green slime in water
Post by: crunchie on August 24, 2018, 09:17:07 PM
Hello y'all, hope you're having a great summer.  Just wondering if any others have seen some green slime in the water on the shores?  Have you spoken to anyone about what this may be?

No, nothing like that at my end of the lake thank God. I'll keep an eye open for it tho.

Algae bloom perhaps, not a good sign. Usually associated with hot still water and excessive fertilizers entering the water systems, which seems unusual for Kipawa waters.

Cheers

Could it be pollen in the water? Lots of stuff is blooming right now.

Just to let the board know that I sent some pictures to OBVT on the advice of the Lake Kipawa health center and other organizations.  OBVT is a federal water quality committee, I'll try and keep everybody informed.

I apologize for not getting back sooner.  I was told by the authorities that from what they saw form my pictures is not toxic.  They claimed that this algae is a result of the higher than normal water temperature that we experienced this pas summer.

It does look like my summer water, so it's probably just temp related.

Our local water goes above 90f (32c ?) and the algae doesn't hurt anything.
