Title: Alwaki to Red Pine
Post by: Hodgey1 on July 24, 2019, 02:38:41 PM
Has anyone went from Alwaki to Redpine Chute here on the forum? If so, can speak to any areas of serious concern for potential prop damage. I have created a route using Navionics App with all the depths shown and appears navigable?? 22 miles so says app

Any input is appreciated.

Hi Hodgey, I’m not sure of any areas of concern but I did that run last year for the first time with no issues.  Just kept to the middle and took it easy through Butney Narrows.  Also, just an FYI...I was checked by the Ministry for the first time ever this past Thursday.  It was just before Hunters Narrows from the Alwaki side.  They asked for our licenses, checked our livewell, cooler, and leech container and were on their way.

It was a 16’ tiller with a 40hp. I can’t recall how long it took.

Run the middle the whole way with full throttle you won’t have any problems

Don’t not take the point too close at joes, don’t run the left side in the long narrows and whatever you do stay to the right if you decide to go under red pine do not go on the left side you won’t have a bottom end left

Chris I did the run from Old Mackenzies Camp to Kipawa lodge one day. Zero issues with the route, but I was running on fumes at the end so make sure you bring extra gas. Also for sure don't go on a day when they're calling for any sort of stronger winds from the west, you may get down Hunters fine but it can blow up real good to the point you couldn't get back up it on your return trip.
I posted that route back in this thread http://kipawafishingforum.net/index.php?topic=994.msg11280#msg11280   It won't let me attach it now, file is too large.

Enjoy your tour. Are going to visit Puckster?

Thanks everyone for the input! I am hoping if the moons align, to possibly go visit the Puckster and crack a beer.

I have a 1650 Lund with a 60hp 4 stroke Merc. It seem to be a gas sipper? I make a 30 min run out into Lake Erie and troll for 2-3 hrs and return trip and only add 4 gallons of gas. I think the tank hold 15 gals.

I have never really done any exploring and this is my 5th trip...… I hope to meet the Puckster and in the process see some more of the beauty of Kipawa.

Hodgey-Follow Crackers advice in the Long Narrows and the point.
I have a bigger boat than yours and only went up to Grindstone. Smooth sailing through Butney for sure.
