Title: Best husband ever.
Post by: Hodgey1 on August 09, 2019, 12:14:50 PM
Please keep this quiet, because our anniversary isn’t until this Saturday, but I thought you would all like to know I bought my wife a sweet present. LOL.

We will be married 17 years this Saturday and I thought it would be only fitting to give my wife a present, that will truly continue to give to us, for years to come. So today I placed an order for a i-pilot for my trolling motor. I am Sure, she will be pleased this September, when we are at Kipawa and she no longer has to pull the anchor. LOL

;D ;D

Surely a very thoughtful anniversary gift. I'm not sure, but you may want to supplement her great gift with something, you know, just for her.  ;)

Bring a nice bottle of Kim Crawford Chardonnay-plan to have a shore lunch on a beach beyond the Turtles Chutes.
You prepare everything in the cabin beforehand (fillets, potatoes and cole slaw) and plunk her down on a beach chair as you light a fire and cook.

I kind of disagree with T-Bone, We both agree an awesome gift,  but like you explained it will save her work and provide hours of enjoyment.  I bought Les the co-pilot last year and she loved it.  I'm sure of it, now that I think of it I may not have asked her.  Good luck with your anniversary and congrats on 17 years.

Thanks guys for your tips, ideas And well wishes.

I am certain that you all know I was kidding. Not only is this weekend our anniversary but my birthday is on Sunday as well. We got married one day before my birthday so I could never forget LOL!. I have plans for a motorcycle ride In the countryside to a couple of wineries in our area. And then a nice dinner at a place in north east Pennsylvania that is right on Lake Erie, For our anniversary dinner.

I pilot is actually a birthday gift to me, from me, with love and admiration for all that I do for me, LOL. for those of you who may have met my brother,  he’s one buff dude for 56. He’s a workout freak unlike myself, and even he got sick of lifting that anchor in  and out, after a week in kipawa.

I had two things in mind to upgrade this season, one being the trolling motor to I pilot and the other upgrading my fishfinder to have background maps. As you can see the trolling motor won. I’m going to begin scrolling away my pennies to save for a new fishfinder. After those two improvements to my boat, I think I will be set for a while. Like others have said, boat stands for, bring on another thousand.

Thanks @Chumy77 , I think we will both enjoy it, probably more me than her, since I alway pull the anchor when we are together.

Congrats on 17 years and Happy Birthday.
You picked an excellent present for yourself.

It will be a welcome addition in your Kipawa arsenal.
Best thing ever invented for the avid walleye fisherman.

You will enjoy it.
Maybe you will show it to me in September.

20 days and counting

The post man brought my i-pilot this week and I installed it yesterday. I figured my wife deserved a prompt install, so away I went, It was a very easy install I might add. It took longer to figure out which installation instruction I needed to follow, than it took to actually install the darn thing.

Why muddy your installation instruction for multiple models into one set? If you have  this do that, but if you have that do this, or if you don’t have this or that, but have this attachment move on to step 27? Geezzz

You can run the ipilot from your garmin as well. It's set up for that already.

So the Garmin can control the i-Pilot. That is interesting. Do you know what it can do? I’m guessing, maybe have it follow a contour or plan a route?

Prob that and anchor. Goto waypoint etc.The Garmin uses wifi to communicate. I scanned thru the manual.

I just skimmed the manual.....Looks a bit complicated and seems like the thing might also serve as a microwave also.

Nice! Your going to love it man!.. So convenient! Just a tip, keep a spare controller battery in your boat..because once you use the controller your never gonna wanna use the pedal again! LOL!

I can't remember the last time I actually used the pedal on my TM's

Thanks Greg.

The model TM I have, the pedal becomes unusable after the installation of the iPilot.

I hit on this in my trip report, but I wanted to update this thread.

I used the iPilot for the first time 10 days ago at Alwaki. What a amazing device. I really have never used my trolling motor much, but now used it ever day as my anchor. The memory locations for anchor points is very handy also, to get you right back to a favorite spot. Only problem is remembering the location identifier, need a pad and paper to write it down. It was pretty simple to install also and a great addition to my boat. I haven't used this feature yet, but you can record a track and then automatically have it retrace the path. How cool is that.

I'm glad you are enjoying the ipilot.  The money we spend on toys it's nice when they are as good or better than we expect.
