Saw LOTW was starting to freeze up...about 100-yards off the shorline already locked-up as of yesterday. Made me wonder how Kipawa was doing...

Is it to early to start the "ice out" competition... sheeshhh... I don't know how others feel, but I can't wait (already) and my boat has only been in storage for 3 days.
Oh well, I guess winters re-ignite our passion for fishing.
Wasn’t implying we should discuss ice out, but rather ice on. Not too early for that.

LOL. I just got home from a about ten days at camp. It's only just starting to get cold up there. The ground hasn't started to freeze yet. We've had a few inches of snow on the ground and that mostly disappeared. The lake is still ice free. Interesting tho the lake level was at summer levels rather high for this time of year but it rained and snowed almost every day I was there. Having said all that, on my way home lake Antoine and Trout lake both showed some skim ice.
Maniwaki and Red Pine rd were both snow covered on my way out.
Puckster, how about some pictures of how your camp is coming along? I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who's curious.
All little lakes are now fully iced as well as many mid size ones. We had a good dumping of snow late saturday and sunday. 8 to 12" of snow in the bush now. Kipawa is generally last to fully ice due to the sheer amount of water. Back bays are first. Winter is upon us. Cheers.

Saw the satellite shot from yesterday; was a pretty clear shot and many areas of the lake are starting to look 'milky' white...others locked-up already. It looked like most of Grindstone up toward Red Pine was mostly ice, but other areas appear to be quite open still...I'm sure that will change sooner than later.
169 days until Trip 1, and I'm carrying-in a whole new tackle philosophy this year; it would make Captain Crappie uncomfortable for sure... ;D
Ice :( I only enjoy it, if bourbon is poured over it in my glass :D
Can any locals comment on the ice conditions and snowpack in the bush. I can't imagine the ice is safe on kipawa (maybe smaller lakes) due to the warm weather. Cold weather is on the horizon though. Thanks.
A friend of mine is Ice fishing today on a back lake near Maynooth , Ontario and he is on 14" of ice
T-Bone, if you're telling me that you are only taking a hand full of jigs.... yeah, that would make me nervous. The thought of being up there without worm harnesses, crank baits, slip bobbers, and swim baits would give me the shakes. For me it's just more fun trying to catch fish with different methods when there is a lull in the catching with whatever I am doing at the time. OK, you have my curiosity peeked, what may be your new philosophy? I have my pills ready. And Happy New Year! The ball just dropped about 10 minutes ago.

I haven't been up this winter yet. But I am told they are sledding at Red Pine with some natives catching thru the ice. I think there's a foot of ice but with the temps above and below freezing I'm not sure I wanna venture out there just yet.

Something like that, but will always have 3 key tactics at my disposal; jig w/ body, Hot-N-Tot, slip bobber rig. Though when I leave the cabin to hit the water, I will carry nothing more than a cooler as I have compartmentalized these three tactics so small they'll fit into a vest. Nothing I hate more than too much stuff in the boat.
And I know...many of you would rather be "staring at it" than "looking for it", I'm pretty sure on any given outing I'll have all I need to succed.
