Hot n' Tots have always been my go to lure up in the Kipawa region. Just like you, I have found that the gold/black work extremely well, but we have also had luck with blue/silver, white, perch and a few others. Even though I take a good sized tackle box I could probably transport the tackle I actually use in a small Tupperware. ;D
This made me think of a Kip smallmouth my wife caught. We were fishing the sanctuary for eyes with jigs and 1/2 worm when my wife hooked into a nice fish that was giving her a good fight. We never saw the fish but I figured the way it ran it was a nice small mouth and she was in the bow of the boat. Since we use light tackle she was enjoying the fight when the fish ran under the boat wrapping around the hull of the boat and became airborn swinging towards the boat and hitting her in the back and landing beside her startling her. After she recovered from the shock of something hitting her and realized what happened we looked at each other and laughed our A***es off for a few minutes at the event. One of our many Great memories of Kipawa that still gets talked about occasionally when we are out on our local lakes fishing.

Joe - the Hot N Tot in blue and Silver (w a red lip) was my best lure on a fly in trip a few years back (report coming soon lol). In general i find when fish are active bouncing a hot n tot over rocks and boulders really works
JLG that is a great story. As offside as this may sound on a Kipawa forum I will say that lb for lb nothing beats catching a feisty smallmouth
