As mentioned one way I distract myself in the Winter is by reading. Some of it is specifically about fishing, some of it is fiction with a slant of outdoors and like this book some of it is about putting myself on the path of another adventurer
Distant Fires is the story of two high school friends who decide to paddle over 1200 miles from Duluth Minnesota to York Factory.
My review is here but overall I truly enjoyed this book and the adventure of it all. I also enjoyed the fact that Scott and his friend are not experienced travelers or well funded. Simply two guys with a dream and a ton of guts

The book sounds like an interesting read; will definitely consider it.
Did you happen to catch the 8 episode series on the Outdoor channel called The Brigade
10 people had 28 days I think to paddle a voyageur canoe 750 miles from Castlegar, Bc to York Factory

Thanks for the link Charley - that show sounds right up my alley
Gordy, just an FYI... another great read and details the Kipawa area, is "Kipawa River Chronicles" by Scott Sorenson. Many of us on this web site have read it and we've discussed it before.
