Title: Late season walleye fishing?
Post by: Gary S on June 27, 2020, 03:50:59 PM
First I'm glad this is back, I joined the end of March and thought I shut the forum down. How late in the year are outfitters open with decent walleye fishing? If things look sensible I may want to make a late season short notice trip.

Typically late-Sept...then some are open for moose hunting.

I thought the same thing.  We were supposed to go up to Alwaki a couple of weeks ago.  First trip I missed since I was twelve years old.  I'm 44 now

A couple of years ago, we were up in October for the Moose hunt and were able to get out fishing the day before opener.
A small problem is that the ministry starts lowering the lake levels in September and it was making it difficult to get the boat to the dock.
I don't know what the conditions would be like at other outfitters but that is what I saw with ours..

I’ve fished Alwaki in September 3 times and I have found the fishing still pretty darn good.  I would recommend going earlier in September, partly because September can be a changeable month weatherwise and as Rhybak mentioned,  they begin dropping the water level. I have been there when the weather is outstanding and also cold wet and windy.

Cold ,wet and windy is the best time Hodgey1.. Gets my blood boiling! Can't wait for September.. This year I want a fire every night, good times :)

That is one thing I liked about September as opposed to June.
June, your back from fishing after 10PM.... too late for a fire.
September, your fishing is dome around 7:30PM..... lots of time to enjoy a snack and an evening fire.

Oh yea, The outside fires in Sept also rock! Last Sept, we needed a fire in our cabin it was so cold at times.
