Title: Crossing the border
Post by: Tree cutter on July 11, 2020, 10:03:46 AM
What do everyone think about getting across the border. I keep moving my trip later and later. Should I just bite the bullet and realize I’m not going this year. First time for a long time I didn’t fish in Canada. This darn Covid is starting to grow again in the US. Man I could take my own food and only stop and get gas at the pump. The only thing is beer but I’m willingly to paid the extra at the border and haul it from PA. And the outfitter is from OHIO he would be the only one I would see. Watch the news you might see some crazy guy from Pa trying to cross above the Falls in a kayak with 5 thirty packs of Bush Light strapped to it and a fishing pole.

Treecutter, I think there are many of us who feel your pain. I am not normally one to watch the news because most of it is lies anyway, but I might start watching just to keep an eye out for you.

With nearly 60,000 new cases of COVID in the USA on a daily basis, I would think it highly unlikely that the Canada/US border would open any time soon. Indeed, the border probably won't reopen until sometime in 2021. Although that would represent dire consequences for the tourism industry in Canada, increasing numbers of COVID is the US is pretty darn dire too.

Sad to say it, but I'm afraid Jay is right. Our trip in early July was postponed til mid-August. July 21 is when they're re-evaluating the border crossing.

I can't imagine a scenario where the border opens this year. So that means I'll miss the May trip, July trip, and likely the September trip. First time since I think 1988 I haven't been up north fishing at least once during the summer months. Guess that means I'll need to try and make up for it with additional trips next summer...if that's even going to be a possibility.  :(

One perception I've cemented over this whole COVID thing...there are a lot of stupid, selfish people in the world. Fortunately, it has also taught me there are a lot of really smart and selfless people in the world. Right now it seems like the dummies are winning...

I have to agree that I would be very surprised if the border opened this year. We had to cancel our July trip and with no ability to reschedule for later have moved on to thinking of next year unfortunately. First time not going north since 1993.

From where I sit, opening before next year is a dream.
And 2021 isn't guaranteed either, if this virus doesn't slow down.

My condolences to everyone that's had to cancel your plans for this year.

Honestly, I can't believe our numbers here in Ontario aren't higher!

I see so many people with out masks and gloves. I have this argument with my brother-in-law all the time HAHA! He's harping on the US and how bad they are doing for numbers.

I'm like we should be as well! I see almost nobody wearing any type of PPE when I go to the gas station or a store and most do not honor social distancing.

Maybe we are just getting lucky! I have a feeling it is going to change here over the coming weeks as we open up, it is going jump again. It will only be do to nobody following common sense!

i'm in Sudbury and I'm happy to say that our numbers are pretty good here up north. Most ppl are wearing masks,  then you get the odd ones who can't, then the others that just won't. I stay away from them and go about my business.

I actually drink labatts blue when I’m up there. But I’m a sissy back here in Pa I drink about a six pack of Bush iight golfing every week. If I drank a 6 pack of blue while golfing I couldn’t hit the ball. It’s definitely a little stronger.
