Title: What all species of finned friends in Lake Kipawa
Post by: plowjock on February 22, 2021, 09:01:02 PM
 Hi everyone on the KFF.board
I've spent pretty well the last our or more trying to figure out all the species in this vast waterway
I'll be making my maiden trip to Kipawa this summer, last week of June.
I'll be looking for and hopefully successful in catching something of my finned friends and not just sunrays and bug bites.
According to what I have read so far, there are, Lakers, Whitefish, Walleye, Pike, Perch, and both Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass.
I think I saw some discussion about Fallfish, Mooneyes and what was a Whitefish or Fallfish.
Anything else to attract my attention.
I'll be coming up with a veteran of the Old board who went by the name of Barney.
Looking forward to this trip and thinning the herd a little.

Fallfish and Whitefish are two different species.
Best to google them to see the difference.

Fallfish is just an overgrown Chub
Whitefish is an actual gamefish that is very edible.

Add to your list

Catfish
Carp
Suckers

Are there any other species. Thinking of Panfish; Blue Gills, Pumpkinseeds and Crappies.
What are the major baitfish in this fishery for the Lakers?
Yes, I'm new here but I have a thousand questions to help me in being prepared for the last week in June.
I've been told it's only120 days til we head up to Smithbay Outfitters.

Hi there Plowjock, and welcome aboard. Ciscoes also known as lake herring are the main forage species for the Lake trout. Use your electronics to locate them, and then trust in your lucky charms to boat a few. Andre.

Thank you guys for your assistance.
I know about playing video games with the sonars and Lakers.
Have been doing this on the Big Rideau for last 12 years.
Best day was 35 Lakers over the gunnels of the boat, and all released.
I just enjoy a good fish fight. have also caught a few Whites on the Big Rideau.
Best White came in at just under 10 lbs. That was a real good battle.

So my calculation says the week of June 19-26

I'll be in your area of the lake
June 19-25 and June 29-July 2
