Well i may be jumping the gun here..
Any predictions on this years ice out?
I was thinking the first week of may..however i have the last week of April booked for vacation....hmmm.
Looking like an early spring this year. I'll take an April date this year. April 25th...
I like your thinking joe...i was planning on bringing the boat up there. Would be fantastic if i was able to boat in as well and get a head start on the season. If your up there that early i will be sure to stop in.
Just heard ice about 1ft thick. Shorelines dangerous and soft spots around pressure cracks etc. Sounds like crossing on a sled is just about done....perhaps an early spring is in the cards.
Hmmm my guess is April 20th
I'm going to be very optimistic and say April.12th.
Was on the ice yesterday morning and although it was very solid it never did set up like normal years. Furthermore, we are in the midst of a 6 day warm stretch. This is the first March in about 10 years which was mostly spring like as opposed to the normal 90% winter / 10% spring.
Bring on Spring!!!!

I like that thinking...
@knuckles I'm aiming for right after Easter for a week or so, back in Barrie for a week then camp til Novemeber. I gotta see your place.
I am going with April 18th ! Fingers crossed early ice out
I'm in with April 15th!
April 21 for me!
I crossed Hunters Lake on my sled on Friday and Saturday to check on the camp. Went over the pressure crack. It was open for about 6 feet. Everywhere else, the ice is still 12-16†thick.
I’m guessing mid to late April at least. Say.....April 19th.
May 15th.

Still looks pretty solid
The earliest we ever got into camp in the spring was 2010 early April. By the time we got on the Maniwaki and had driven a while, we were noticing all the snow on the back roads. Got to our camp road and we were only able to drive in a little way. We had to carry stuff in the rest of the way....then go back and forth for more supplies the rest of the weekend. It was either that, or drive home ....didn't feel like doing that after already sitting in the truck for over 4 hours. It turned out to be a great weekend and I believe the ice was out by the time we left. Sooooo lesson learned, I now ask the locals about the back roads before we head out...lol.
May 1...
April 28th for me. Was watching the seagulls behavior around the govt dock today, just the way they were flying, it's a sign.
I'm going to say April 10
For Kipawa big lake, further up north probably April 26th. My Lake is just getting black along south shoreline.
To be honest, I hope it's later.
Don't want the fish to spawn earlier than normal and screw up their normal migration patterns.
I think i will say april 23rd.....since its the start of my vacation.

They were looking for French fries.
My usual prediction of May 6th.
Who's going to be the official date caller? Usually it has been an outfitter.
Today is day 6 of significant melt. Snow has taken a beating and I suspect the ice has as well. I don't think I would trust crossing the lake anymore, but the locals will know better. Still hopeful for an abnormally early ice out / snow gonzo. :D
Took a drive around some of the lakes and rivers close to Ottawa.
I'd say the way the weather has been, my prediction is April 14,2021.
Everything is moving along pretty quickly here.
I know you're quite a bit further north, but that sun sure has been a pleasure to have hitting you.
Most snow around Ottawa is GONZO!

Judging by the modis imagery it appears lake Simcoe is mostly ice free and even a fair sized lake north of Simcoe. I feel good about my April.12th prediction, even though it would be historically early. Warm temps today and long range looks very promising starting this Saturday.
Lake Simcoe is ice free
The lake north, I believe is Lake Muskoka.
Lake joseph is looking darker and darker.
Nipissing is Still pretty white
See what todays warm weather does to those lakes

I'll throw in April 16th......
April 19

April 19
I'm not splitting the prize with you should we be correct. Lol
Ice has never been off in April for as long as I can remember
You can almost set a watch on the week before opener maybe first week of may
May 7
It’s been quite a few yrs since a real early ice out, earlyb90’s , 1992 or 93 maybe that we swam from the boat on the May opener.
Not just jump in and out screaming, but floating mid lake to cool off fishing on a 30 degree opener day.
It’s been too long since we had some actual Hot weather on the opener.
Maybe 2021 will be the one.
APRIL 26
I believe the ice was off in 2010 in April....the only year I can remember
@wayne , would you mind calling the ice out again for us this year?
I won't have a prize this year unless someone wants to step forward. I just paid the expenses for this forum for this year. So I am a little short of cash right now.

Morning Nancy. I will donate a cap and T shirt again to the lucky winner how ever I didn't anticipate the early ice out this year and my boat won't be ready till the 23rd of April. Looking at the long range forecast I think the ice will be gone before then. If I am wrong then sure I will be heading to the Lodge at the end of the month. Maybe Jody from Camp Kipawa could call it if the ice leaves before the 23 rd. Jody lives right there.
Saturday April 17 would be a nice day for the ice to be gone. Not gone done here in Huntsville yet but I expect by the middle to end of next week it will be gone here on the bigger lakes. They are looking pretty black although it is -8 here this morning. Have a great Easter Weekend!
I'll take May 3rd just because I'm scheduled to donate blood that day, maybe I'll get a reward!
@Campkipawa could you be our official to call the ice out this year per Wayne's recommendation?
I will change my pick to April 9
Just looking at the ice right now - going fast
I’ll donate a “lucky lureâ€

Good morning, unfortunately I am not the Camp Kipawa that Wayne is referring to (just a coincidence with my KFF handle). I am not local so I wouldn't be the best at calling the ice out. Happy Easter everyone!
@puckster_guy Are you at camp now and able to call the ice out or are you in town?
April 22nd please
In order to be somewhat fair to those who have submitted their dates early, we will do a cutoff of April 10 midnight to submit your guesses. Thanks
april 23 for me
Are there any locals who would be able to call the official ice out?
April 29 here
Hey Nancy, I sent a message to a friend who lives in Kipawa. They will let me know when the ice leaves the lake. Hope this is okay as an official ruling. Let me know, Thanks.
@wayne , that is great. Thanks so much.
I'll guess April 24th.

My internet has been down the last couple of days. I'm back on now. lake Maclaughlin is mostly free of ice I can boat to Mackenzie camps and probably into Grindstone. There's a bay that goes south from here with less current and it's still freeing up but clearing by the day. lake level is down large but filling daily about 2 inches a day. Hoping to be able to troll for lakers soon.
Lakers open April 23rd as far as I understand the regs.
Looks very promising for us to get back to camp at the end of April !
FYI. The lake in front of my camp is now completely clear of ice.
Saw these shot posted today from friends who live across from the main launch in town....can"t verify yet if the entire lake is open.

Ok our friends have boated from the town launch to our place at sunnyside...they said there were a few floaters etc but water flowing freely...i have 2 pics of our dock which i will post later when i get a chance...anyone pick today for ice out..lol?
At camp this afternoon
Completely open no sign of ice anywhere
Ice out April 9
😁
Kipawa outposts that rents houseboats
Is out in his float plane right now
He will know if there is any ice left anywhere
Don’t think so though Green Lake our from Kipawa is wide open no sign of ice anywhere
Lots of boats coming and going from Kipawa ramp
Hey Guy's, I have been in touch with several friends from Kipawa, some did boat to there camps today and Paul did fly over the lake to check things out. You can see the pictures on his face book page. Still large patches of ice floating around in certain area's, so I think it should be completely ice free by tomorrow morning. So this year I think it's only fair that we have 2 winners of the ice out contest April 10th and 11th. If everyone agrees with this, then send your name and mailing address in a pm or to info@kipawalodge.com and I will mail the hats and shirts. Here's hoping for a somewhat normal season, enjoy your time on the lake everyone, Stay safe!
Thanks so much
@wayne for your efforts and donating the prizes.
@RHYBAK, you selected April 10. Congratulations and no one selected April 11. Thanks to everyone who participated!
Congrats to Rhybak!

Thanks to Wayne for calling and prizes.

First, Congrats to Rhybak on winning.
Wayne, thanks for making connections to inform Nancy on the date of OFFICIAL ice out and also for donation of prizes.
Now, let's get ready to wet some lines and catch some finned friends.
Thank You everyone.
That was a shot in the dark as we have never seen such an early ice out in previous year.
Thank you Wayne.
Thank you Nancy.
