Title: Scorching Weather
Post by: hinorth on August 24, 2021, 06:19:21 AM
Just got back from 4 days on the lake. Weather was incredible if you like heat, glassy calm water and here's the big one, no flies.  I'm not an avid fisherman and definitely don't know anything about walleye so don't take this to heart, but I didn't get one in the slot size.  Lots of 8-12 inch fish that I released, and that was with quite a few hours on the water.  I'm sure my method wasn't great nor were the conditions, but if nothing else, had a great time.  For those of you that missed last weekend, the water was incredibly warm and by the looks of the forecast should stay that way for a bit longer.  Lots of people on docks takin it easy.  Enjoy what's left of the summer.

Great report, Hinorth. Being a newbie to the board, would be nice to know which area of the lake you were visiting. I can sympathize with you about the size of your eyes. It goes to prove the slot sizes work. Just think how many will be available for harvest in 2-3 years time. Sure is nice to have a visit without all those pesky flies and squitters. Topwater action for smallies would have been fantastic.

I didn't fish last weekend and I can attest to the great weather.
I did manage to swim a dozen times....nice way to cool down when you're working up a sweat.
The water was 80°C

The water temp on Grassy Lake was 69.9 Deg F on the 13th and was over 80 deg F in the shallows on the 22nd. The hot calm days made the fishing way more difficult.

It was smoking hot, and not fun for working, we too enjoyed cooling off in the water.
Stu went out fishing a few times, I am pretty sure most of his catch was bass

yes, sorry.  Being new to the lake and trying to learn the waters close to the camp I was fishing around Bronson Island.  I got all the way around.  Did catch some bass but saw more than I caught. One of them was spewing minnows out of it's mouth as I was getting it to the boat.  Maybe that's why they weren't too interested in anything I threw at them with the exception of worms.
