Title: Lake Trout fishing in the Fall
Post by: Greg on August 30, 2021, 07:04:43 PM
I admit, before typing this, I have not looked up the regulations, but wanted to hear from you guys...

I am headed back to Alwaki in under 4 weeks and was wondering if there is any different approach to lake trout fishing?  Do you do anything different other than depth?

I hear they lower the lake level a foot or 2 for their spawn... is the season closed at a certain time?

(Constructive) input welcome.

Thx
Greg  (...going to try to go find the regs again)

...So from what I think I have found... lake trout appears to basically shut down on Sept 12th...   am I reading this correctly?

Looks like lake trout fishing will have to wait to next year.

Knew it had to be somewhere before mid September.
Water levels are lowered for the spawn, which takes place around full moon in October.
Same thing here in Ontario, Big Rideau gets lowered every year which knocks a lot of boat ramps out of use.
Also makes navigation on the Rideau system pretty tricky up until Canal closing on Canadian Thanksgiving.

Thanks guys... never been to Kipawa in the fall so definitely going to be different - walleye rods is all we need this trip!

Cheers,
Greg

I would love to get to Kip for thanksgiving! Just never seem to find a place that is open to fisherman and also allows dogs.

I bet Kipawa is absolutely stunning when the leaves change!

My last weekend at my camp before the Osbornes take over was last weekend. Can you believe the maple leaves are
already turning red?

The ride in the fall to camp in years previous was always spectacular.

See you all out on the water.

This time of year I'm getting them flat lining. Usually a chrome/blue deep diver over deep water. Great fight and dinner while it lasts.
