Title: Winter Fishing
Post by: hinorth on January 04, 2022, 09:50:08 AM
My understanding of the winter fishing regulations for Zone 13 West is totally closed for any lake that has trout.  Is this just any lake with Lake Trout or any kind of trout?  Sorry, but second question is, how do I determine if a lake has no trout and is legally open to fish pike, pickerel or perch through the ice?  I thought I had found an interactive Map last summer which indicated a few lakes but none were very close to my camp and I can't find the link again. Does someone know where this info can be found or the contact info for the "local" fish & game officer?  I can only spend so much time cutting firewood and shoveling snow... I need to get out fishing if possible.  Thanks if anyone can help me.

https://peche.faune.gouv.qc.ca/regpec/en/Info/Reglements?id_zone=14&id_saisn=120&courantes=False&resultats=True
this is the regulations that show when specific lakes close in 12 west.  There really isn't much opportunity to fish trout in quebec in the winter unless you are on a private lease.

Ozzy, reading this and I think a lot of people could get in trouble because it does actually list an open trout season which in fact I think we are all in agreement that there are no open seasons for trout in 13 West with the exception POSSIBLY! for some private property or leases. I do know that there are some pike and pickerel lakes that are open.... I am trying to find a list of them or should I be looking for a list of known trout lakes and make sure the lake I am thinking about is not on that list?  Otherwise, is there a game warden in Kipawa that I could ask?

Reelpro, thanks for the tip on trying the ZEC office.  Never thought of that.  PM sent.  Thanks, Kevin

Yes @hinorth it's a bit of a conundrum.

Any lake with lake trout, regardless of whether you're targeting another species, is illegal to fish. How one determines definitively if lake trout are present, is beyond me.  There are a few pike only lakes, but finding a lake with pickerel that is void of trout in the area is difficult. Good luck with the zec office, that may be the best avenue.

Campkipawa, I hope to get to Temiscaming early enough in the day to stop into the Fish & Wildlife office and hopefully,  if I point out a few lakes of interest, that someone there... preferably a Conservation Officer can tell me yay or nay.  I have been told by several people two separate lakes that are definitely open but both are 1+ hours away.  For me it's not so much about catching fish but to be out in the fresh air, having a small lakeside fire and enjoying the silence the area has to offer.

Try this. It's fun to play with. Zoom into the area (ZEC) your interested in. Click on the lake in question and an info tab will pop up full of info on the lake. Like whether the lake is open or not, fish in the lake, camping spots etc.

@puckster_guy thanks.  That's the interactive map I found last year and could not find it again. Thanks for sharing the link. It is a great resource.  I'm now trying to locate a similar map for outside the ZEC trying to find something closer to my camp / Kipawa. Most of these open lakes on the ZEC are too far other than maybe picking one nice day to go on an adventure.
