Title: New App
Post by: plowjock on April 11, 2022, 09:19:21 AM
Good day members of this Fishing Forum.
I have been following a young lad on You Tube.
Him and his buddies have just released a new App
I feel it could/would be of assistance to a lot of members on here.
It is called Walleye Now. Available on Google play or Apps Store "FREE"
Very informative, everything from electronics thru to time of year, type of fishing etc.
I know just watching his videos this past year helped me immensly, in setting up electronics, rigging, bottom observations etc.
Hope some of you try it and pass the word around.

Isn't that put out by Tom Boley? Been watching his videos for a while now and they are very informative and well done.

Smitty 55, that's the man. He has done up something which I feel is going to be a game changer. As you said, well done videos and very informative.

i downloaded the App and there is a bit of a catch.
Only so much is free, then you must subscribe in order to get the full benefit of the App.
Always a catch.

Rhybak, there seems to always be a little catch, but it seems there's no such thing as a free lunch. I think you will be surprised how fantastic a job he has done and has already added new content to this App, re: cold water fishing, and rising and lowering water tables. I'll just wager that a lot of people will catch a lot more fish following some of his suggestions. I spoke with a well known Ottawa valley guide yesterday and he fishes walleyes on the St.lawrence river and Temagami lake and his comments when I mentioned Tom Boley, said he is one of the best young sticks and very informative.

With all your years and experience and the amount of time you spend on the water Rybak you should create an app.  I will give props to Tom though, I've been watching for the last year also

Didn't realize at first, about the charge. Thinking it's a tad heavy per month basis. Very knowledgeable Fisherman and Videographer. It does take a lot of experience to fish, film and turn out this quality of Information.

Yah
A lot of us just keep that knowledge to ourselves.
No need to flaunt it.

I don't need no stinking App to catch fish.

If you need all these technological advances, you should just go buy your walleye.

Well said
I was trying to be politically correct but that says it all

An experienced Walley angler on a familiar body of water may not need the new tech available, but less experienced or new anglers could benefit from it.  A lot of tech like this app, and other tech would help younger anglers have earlier success.

It took me and my dad quite a few years to really nail down patterns and location on kipawa. Time on the water is so precious I don't blame people for using technology to make the most of their time. Once you acquire the knowledge and skills and put the walleye puzzle together then you're laughing.

As long as anglers respect the fishery and follow the regs, who cares how you catch them.

I concur with everything you said Kyle.  Especially that last sentence.  Who cares….
Whether you use an app or fish like your great-grandfather did over a century ago, enjoy your trip.

How many guys would bristle at the thought of their depth/fish finders, GPS’s, etc…being banned on Kipawa?  That, in its simplest form, is using tech to cut corners to our advantage.

Wouldn't bother me one bit.
When someone relies on technology so much that their head is buried in their screen, how much enjoyment is one really having.

Cool.  Hope you have successful outings.
No different than my hopes for the guy who chooses to stare at his screen while out on the water.
Neither has an impact on my trip in any way.

I often wonder about that too. I've been with some guys that I feel like I'm on the job. hunting and catching. Constantly moving from spot to spot,  I tend to get that way when i get friends up from the city. Mostly now I'll check out a spot or two (yes I need my electronics) or just troll all day smoking na cigar and enjoying Molson's fine products... No pressure, just enjoy my surroundings.

@puckster_guy, yeah I use tech for jigging.  Just to know where anchor is planted and the boat swing depths.
Trolling….I look at depth when my back is to shoreline.  1. Not to veer off course too much.  2. To keep (or try to keep) my fishing partner from getting snagged lol.
We do fair amount of open water trolling so it’s not even on.

I have a chart plotting Garmin. I have found spots the locals don't even know about in my mapping quest. The depth finder tells me where the fish are concentrated. They go deeper as the year progresses. I split my time between jigging (for numbers) or trolling just to be out there. I too am having good luck trolling very deep water while flatlining deeper runners. Especially as it's getting dark. I use a ripplin redfin in shallow water close to shore as well with pretty good luck. I have one spot where lakers will almost come to the surface to chase a trolled lure as I'm looking for pike and walleye. No bass here ...yet!
