Title: Smallmouths in Kipawa
Post by: PETERBFLY on July 01, 2022, 07:10:51 PM
Curious if anyone else is struggling to catch Walleye in Lake Kipawa? Our numbers for Walleye have been way down with the explosion of Smallmouth Bass and curious if we are alone in our thinking?

We noticed bass arriving in Hunter's Lake about 4-5 years ago. We seem to catch the odd one every day. Just spent the weekend camping at Hunter's Narrows (there were 7 of us) no problem catching walleye at all. Several over the slot.
We had a big fish fry Saturday and my brother and I brought some home.

What area of the lake are you fishing in?

Northern half of the lake.  Close to Laniel.  Bass are the dominate species where we are now and I know (we know) we need to adapt.  Walleye numbers have dropped significantly over the last 5 or so years, while the bass numbers have more than doubled

Are the bass an invasive species? Any idea what is causing the change?
