Title: Smith Bay Camp?
Post by: BigChief on June 18, 2024, 10:36:52 AM
Is Smith Bay Camp still basically shut down? Talking with Dave from TML, he said they almost exclusively had Amish clientele. So when the shot mandate was in effect they were not coming up. But even with it lifted last year the camp was still empty.
Now don't get me wrong, basically having the entire bay to ourselves oftentimes was awesome. Almost eerie at times though just being used to all the boats that could be there when the fishing was hot.

Just wondering if that may be the case this year also.

I was in the Bay last weekend.
No customers.
Boats were in the water.
The owner was at the Landing just putting his big boat in the water on the Thursday.
Saturday night it was parked at his camp.
As for customers .... I don't know yet?

I'm going up Friday for a week.
I'll see then because we like fishing in there if the fishing is good.

Last weekend there were no fish there   ( June 7-8-9)

@RHYBAK I am going up June 29th. I would be interested in both the camp situation and fish status when you get back.

What does this mean? Do you mean the 'slot' mandate? If so, it certainly has NOT been lifted.

@T-Bone the covid shot. The Amish would not get it so they were not coming up.

Ah...yes...that makes sense. We saw some Amish coming out of the Kipawa area in early-June...

Grant stopped renting to the Amish a couple of years before Covid.  He is having some health issues and has had to cancel some trips this year.  Except for Covid, my group has been going to Smith Bay for 15 years.

From Grant: our Camp is still up & running. 2024 fishing year constituted regular clients. Still doing Moose Hunt this year. Lyn & myself have been on the fence whether to
1. keep Camp running with long established clients
2. keep it as OUR private family resort
3. sell the Camp either as an existing Outfitter or a Family Resort
REMEMBER THIS BEAUTIFULL POINT IS OUR PRIVATELY OWNED LAND! NOT LEASED!!!!!!!!!
THE MAINLAND PARKING LOT AREA IS A LEASE UNDER MY NAME

TEXT: 705-930-3900 FOR LISTING AND PRICE DETAILS

Thanks GRANT & lYN
