Title: snow currently on the ground
Post by: 600 miles north on January 08, 2015, 07:40:41 AM
One thing I always found interesting was the historical data on the weather link on the other site. Just wondering what the temp was and how much snow was being reported on the ground in Temiscaming this morning... Do you know there hasn't been as little snow on the ground by this date since 07'. only 18cm being reported, where as last year there was 55 cm. on the ground by the 7th of January. It also looks like the high temperature may be a few degrees warmer on the lake today than it is here in Ohio.

Just my little fun fact of the day, for what it is worth... http://climate.weather.gc.ca/climateData/dailydata_e.html?StationID=5977

Interesting...I thought they were calling for the same or worse then last year, It's been cold but not a lot of snow. I wonder how much ice is on the lake.

Been an odd year up here.  At my house in North bay there is about 2ft, so 60cm of snow on the ground.  Generally speaking, there is usually more at camp than here, but from what i've heard, not this year.  They've just missed most storms that we've gotten.  But it has felt like a very long winter here already.  First snowfall was oct.31, stayed white until a brief mild spell from nov.2nd to 4th, then more snow on the 5th of november and has been white ever since.  I can't ever remember it being fully white that early.  If spring is normal, we will have been white for more than 6 months!  December was warmer than normal (still below zero of course) and now January has been seasonably cold.  The big snows always come in February and march......sigh :-[  haha

I feel for you rhinoboy, the older I get the more quickly I get tired of winter! I appreciate updating us on the snow where you are. There aren't very many people to check in with this year on the actual snow on the ground because of the lack of ice fishing. The numbers I have been giving from Temiscaming may be much different than what is on the ground 30 min. away in Laniel, but it's a reference point anyway. Cheers, and stay warm...

Things look above normal in the snow on the ground department on Kipawa. Kipawa area has 63 cm of snow on the ground. only last year with 64cm, and 2006 had more snow in the last decade as of February 12th.

Bundle up everywhere this weekend, but especially kipawa area friends. It is -28 c right now, or - 18 f. Burr!

YUP! My plan for Sunday is to be next to the fireplace, drinking some whiskey and sorting my tackle.

Guys at work ask me if I'm gonna retire to my camp year round.....I tell'em that with forcasts like that I'll be spending winters somewhere a little warmer, BRRRRR to cold there for anything except maybe an extended weekend Maybe I'll bring my boat and pitch a tent somewhere on the gulf coast....

Come on down Puckster.
I had complained about our temps until I read what yours are; I'll stop complaining now.
Compared to what the vast majority of you are experiencing, we're disgusting.

Sure thing Sarge, I've been to S.Padre Island. Kinda liked it there. I may rent a place there when I settle into proper retirement. Still about 4 yrs to go swinging wrenches. Also wanna wring out a few more seasons playing hockey. I wanna see how many more years I can get out of this carcass, It's too much fun to give up. :)

Executing the Sunday whiskey plan.. decided on a bottle of Canadian distilled Pike Creek Whiskey... interesting flavor, definitely enough heat to get me through the sub zero windchill temps! anyone else ever tried this brand of whiskey?

Your plan rubbed off on me Nate. I took the wife and a couple of the kids to a shooting range this morning and had a hard time getting the two girls to leave, which was very cool to me! I tried talking my wife into a new hand gun on the way out the door, but I guess she didn't like it that much! LOL

When I read your post the other day I decided to get a bottle of Jim Beam... just to help keep warm and all!  ;) So I have been working on that for the last couple of days. Thanks for being a bad influence!  :) ;)

I will have to keep my eye open for the Canadian Pike Creek Whiskey, can't recall ever seeing it, but then again I was never looking for it. I will let you know what I think if I ever find it...
