Title: Custom Lures
Post by: jackalofnar on April 30, 2014, 08:51:29 PM
So should i double post here too?    :o. Hopefully things will sort themselves out eventually.  The new forum looks good though.  Nice to see a rich text editor.  It will help on the trip reports later this year.

Transferred from the old forum...

A few weeks ago my son and I decided to give one of my favourite trolling spoons a new paint job as a gift for my father-in-law on his birthday.

Behold! "The Enticer, Minion Edition"!  :D

We are heading up to Bush Country Camp in 6 weeks.  Maybe grandpa will unleash his new killer spoon!

Does anyone else on the site put together custom gear?

Cheers,

Kirk

Yes, I usually have done spoons but I have done some crankbaits that I whittle out of cedar.

Someday I would love to have the time and feel I have the skill to create or customize my own lures. For now, I have just developed a friendship with a guy that makes these outstanding spinnerbaits. He calls them Classy Baby Spinnerbaits. The workmanship is exceptional but the picture doesn't do it justice. We have used them at Senneterre with great success and only moderate success at Ogas. He makes two sizes and we think the smaller size make work better there. We were trolling for Pike last year and tied into a Big walleye with a silver one, but like many fishing stories, got it to the top of the water and lost it. For you guys that do  your own, I am envious.

The most I've ever done was to paint some ole Hot n Tots white when they discontinued making the white ones.  The reason? One year we absolutely killed walleye on white Hot n' Tots on Lake Watson and Grassy.  Reminds me I gotta make a few more...

If you fish Hot-n-tots and are looking for some unique colors, check out this ebay link. These are made by Franks Great Outdoors. A little pricey but nice color combos.
