I always wondered; the leeches that swim in Kipawa are plentiful and can easily be harvested. Do the fish not like to consume that 'species' of leech? They do not look the same as the leeches we get at Kipawa Bait and Tackle. Wondering what the scoop is on that?

And just to balance things out, it should be known that Gatorade is more expensive than beer. Yes, a crime, but true. Cripes, some 'boutique' bottle water is more expensive than beer. Like Smart Water. Spending that much on a bottle of water would make me think that I must be less than smart.

Rhybak...when you leave for AK?

14.59 days...  ;D

Beer is more expensive that gas.

The local leeches are very scary.
We tried them once and the walleye did not touch them.
On the other hand ,they attack you very rapidly ,unlike the leeches we buy.

Alaska is June 16 to 29

The leeches with the orange spots are sometimes called horse leeches.  They are the true parasites.  Fish will not eat this type of leech.  The black leeches bought at bait stores are called, I believe, ribbon leeches.  They actually dont feed on living flesh.  At least that is what I have read.
Anyone have any information on the going prices on leeches lately.  Last year, the price jumped the week we went up.  I paid $65 a lb at the bait store in Temiscaming

I just bought leeches and a friend of mine from Westmeath area( half way between Ottawa and NorthBay).  Paid $10 for 1/2 pound.  Good solid leeches.  He told me just to double it for a pound.  So anybody heading up from the Ottawa valley area and want me to contact my friend, just PM me.
