Title: Fish Scent Attractants
Post by: Nancy on June 10, 2015, 11:05:24 AM
Just wondering if anyone uses any scent attactants or soak your plastics in any homemade brew to add more smell? John was just telling me that anise is one of the most used scents. I have seen some baits offered in anise scent, but thought it was a little far fetched. (One of those things to catch the fisherman). Just looking for experiences from anyone here.

I swear by Anise scent for bass. Haven't tried much for walleye but I use Powerbait and it has a great scent for all species.

Scent works, gives the fish a little taste and they grab and hold onto your lure a bit longer to set the hook.
If you watched how fast a bass or walleye can pick up a bait and spit it back out is amazing, faster then you can lift your rod. The one extra second makes a big difference with bass if fishing a jig or something.

Nancy, my experience with Gulp products is that it works very well on panfish.  A 1/32 oz.jig tipped with a 1" Gulp minnow works very well on crappies. Those Crappie Nibblers on a small jig work good too.  On Kipawa I've tried the Gulp night crawlers on worm harnesses and have yet to catch anything there with them. A live leech slip bobbered or trolling with a worm harness with a night crawler, works better for me. A light jig tipped with a piece of crawler is good too.  On my camera, I once watched a walleye swim up to my slip bobbered leech, inhale that leech and spit it out and I never felt a thing?  Once on Lake Erie I had an incredible day with Dr. Juice's Walleye Scent.  There were 6 of us. The limit was 10 each then and I caught 32 nice 2-5 lb. walleyes out the 80 fish limit. (Counting the captain and first mate's fish) The guys and the Charter Captain was giving me grief when I started squirting that stuff on my Erie Dearie.  I felt like the cat that ate the canary after they were soon begging me for a squirt!  Of course I told them to buzz off!  The next trip, I was almost skunked using that stuff and I ate a lot of humble pie!  Ya just never know.
