A year or so ago there was was some concern about the Kipawa small mouth having some sort of parasite or disease that could possibly make a person sick. With the small mouth bass population exploding, it raises the question what the long term effect will do to the walleye/pike/laker population. Coming from that clearer colder water than here in Ohio, they would have to taste better so if they are OK to eat, why not? Eating them might help a bit on keeping the population in check. Any input or are the guys that have eatin them too sick to reply?

I personally am not big into bass fishing and haven't eaten one for years. I caught and cleaned two last year. They tasted great. Several people I know eat them all the time and don't have a problem. They weren't wormy at all
If you want to eat a bass, best ones are 1.5lb to 2.5lbs to eat. Any lakes that are deep and rocky I've never seen worms. Our Kawarhta lakes in Ontario bass have worms due to shallow and weedy lakes, almost just like a soup bowl.
I only eat a couple bass every season and everyone enjoys them.
C.C. we kept a few to eat two years ago and they were good. Due to the concern over getting sick from them that we heard about here on the board we resisted eating any of them last year. But battered and fried up they were tasty...

Thanks guys for the response. If I ever get up to Kipawa again, I'll keep a few smaller ones for the table.

We were catching so many Bass on our trip this year we ended up keeping about a dozen.
Ate two with our fishfry.
Nobody could tell the difference
When the original thread about the bass parasites possibly being harmful to humans I Googled the subject and found myself on a Ministry of Natural Resources website . As per the website (sorry cant recall which one) it was clear no fish parasite when consumed after being cooked properly was harmful to humans .
