I would like to find out if anyone has heard about new regulations re: lake trout this year. I was up there last August and the rumor was that they were going to go to a catch and release only or stop lake trout fishing all together. Thank you in advance for any information.
One lake trout and over 25.5 inches I hope this helps thats 95% shure talk to Alain Fort last week and the minister should annonce this in March
This was posted on March 1st then taken down. Perhaps they are waiting to announce it. Lake trout drops to limit of 1, same slot size. Walleye limit is the same but looks like the season is longer now I think. Seems to me it ended earlier last year.

The walleye keep length seems a bit longer this year than in the past 37cm = 14 5/8 inches
Keep limit is still six.
Fillets must have skin attaches and must be 23cm = 9 1/16 inches long.... ;D good luck with the 1/16"
I don't know if that is with tail attached or not..... After studying it again, it looks like the tail must be attached and is included in the 23cm.
Jay ,please step in and correct me if I'm wrong.
PLEASE NOTE: I have been informed by a reputable camp owner that walleye regulations will possibly be changing before the end of the month.
He has been informed that it is 85% sure that it will be the following
Six Walleye between 37cm ( 14.625") to 53cm ( 21")
Regulation even has a warning that things may change after or around March 31,2016.
Fish you are taking home must be cleaned the new method as shown on an earlier video which I will try to post again.

Sounds like it might be better to just gut fish your gonna take home. No arguments that way.

Hi John,
The length of a walleye or a lake trout is its total length, that is from the tip of the snout to the tip of the tail.
I telephoned the Quebec authorities on Thursday last to ascertain when the new (1 April 2016 thru 31 Mar 2018) Main Rules for Sport Fishing In Quebec would be made available on line. Their response was that they didn't know when the new rules would be made available. So, we wait.
Jay
The regulations website is now updated.
Hi Flatline,
I went looking and was unable to find any updated regulations for sport fishing in Quebec . Could you please provide a web reference?

So, nothing changed? Am I reading it correctly?
- Walleye 6 per person, 37cm+
- Lake Trout 2 per person, 55cm+
- Bass 6 per person, no size limit
Looks like the eyes will have to be filleted the new way. Don't know how much of a pain that will be, but we'll have to do it. There was talk of a slot limit, but if there is no slot limit what is the purpose of the new method? With the slot people could make a fish over the limit look smaller if filleted the old way, so I can see the reasoning, but without it why do it? Any recent members should make sure to read the "threading" post in the fishing section.
adempsey,
It looks like Lake Trout dropped to a limit of 1, same minimum size.

Please read my response closer.
Confirmed changes will come after April 1 from the Governing body.
What is written now isn't necessarily going to stick.
Official word is that there will be a Minimum and a Maximum.
You still get six
Ah, I see. Ok. Strange how they would publish that and then change it two weeks later. Not that I care really, I just want to be legal.
Ok, I didn't notice it on the website at first:
Quote« The terms of the definitive fishing season 2016-2017 will be available on 1 April 2016 »
That is the whole problem.
We all want to be legal.
The hard part will be relearning how to clean a walleye properly for shipping.
I guess the next step will be to remember to freeze it flat so that the constabulary can measure it properly.
I will be packing my vacuum sealer and freezing each fish separately and flat.
I will be too RHYBAK. I hope the Game Cops take into account that this will be for many of us our first time doing it and it may not be pretty. As far as the slot, I really don't mind. It has to help the health of the lake. The new method of filleting may be slower, but with a slot limit it makes sense. Unfortunately, using the "old way" there are people who would make big fish look smaller and break the law, so we all pay the price. 122 more days until the outpost cabin with my son !! 162 to my trip with my friend Jim !!
I have a fool proof method to solve this uncertainty.
Throw them all back.
:)
Lake Trout I throw back, but those walleye are just too tasty and I like to take a few home.
It is the only walleye fishing I do in the year.
Hi Rhybak. Your on Lake Muskoka right? A friend of mine from work has a place on that lake. Somewhere near the light house, He's telling me he's starting to catch lots of Walleye in that lake, that they're making a comeback. Maybe you gotta start looking for them there again....just a thought.
No, I'm on Lake Joseph.
They are in the lake but I could never find them.
I might concentrate a bit more on looking for them this year.
Lake Muskoka is full of them, as is Rosseau
Ahhhh, interesting. I thought all 3 lakes had similar populations of walleye. Or other species for that matter. Thx bro
We built a spawning shoal in Muskoka River near BB falls about 12 years ago. The lake has had amazing results. Looking at building another shoal in Indian River. MNR said it will be as good as BOQ within next few years. People are starting to find out and hopefully they don't destroy the fishery.
How cool. Maybe a couple of thosr on the Kipawa River could make an awesome fishery even better.
I have heard the regs as of today from one of the outfitters. The thing is you will find out for sure when u get your license. It is really important to clean your fish the right way. May weekend last year they had a road block set up at the bridge going to Ontario. The Quebec ministry checked every car that had an Ontario plate. I talked to them and they told me most of the fines were for the Walleye not being cleaned as per the regs. Be careful!
Thanks for the warning of fish cops roadblock RiverRat.
If they're stopping all Ontario plates, I know they'll stop my US-Texas plates. I just hope they speak English this time, unlike the last time I was stopped, on the Maniwaki road where gravel turned to asphalt.
