Title: Ice out
Post by: BigDaddy on March 23, 2016, 10:05:40 AM
Morning gentlemen,

Long time guest, new member.  I live south of the border in Ohio and our weather pattern has been mild compared to 2014 and 2015 respectively.  My question, does anyone have the address to one of the several cameras located on either Kipawa or Nippising?  I always prefer a late spring, snow pack thru mid April and May ice out.  The later the run off, the higher the water levels and it allows my group to access areas low water prohibits. Any input is appreciated.

Thanks

We've often 'wished' that someone up on Kipawa would have a web cam going 24/7/365. Maybe this year I'll try and talk Corina at Kipawa Bait and Tackle into getting one up and running.

Rhybak...please correct if this link is incorrect for the satellite feed; here is the image from a day or two ago...can see Nippissing just through the thin cloud cover...Kipawa is clearly illustrated, and totally iced-in.

the city of North bay web sight has two cameras , one pointed at lake. lots of discussion last year on whether nipissing was any indication of Kipawa and the other deep lakes.

If someone knows when the ice is out would be great to know as a few of us plan to head up a couple weeks early and drop boats in and open camp for the season. We'll also be in contact with James as he's always helpful.

3Seasons Camp posted some pictures on his Facebook page.
Still looks very tight on Easter weekend.

14 Day forecast doesn't help much

I talked to the owners of Chalet Diane and said there was snow on the ground as of yesterday.  There was snow expected this week.  The snow was too deep to do some downing of a couple of trees.  Although we have seen warm temperatures in Southern Ontario it has not been the case there.  I can tell you more when I hear

This map always blows me away, the same satellite that took that pic, with that resolution. Could probably get you a resolution that will allow you to see individual cars on a high way. Why don't they post better pics? I ttried zooming in and got nothing but blurred lakes.

I spoke to a neighbour of mine at camp. I asked if the roads were ok to get to camp. He says that there's still close to a foot of snow still on the ground. The last little bit in is still not passable. The ice is starting to break up near the chutes but the main lake is still frozen solid. It is starting to pull away from the shore. I hoping to head up next weekend if the roads clear up.......Joe

Sitting in Tem Rose having their amazing breakfast
The ice is off the lakew as far as I can see. MacLauglan is completely clear of ice. Roads ruff but easily passable. Pictures later.
