I know some of the folks here are in the Ottawa area, anyone hitting the Cabela's grand opening next Wednesday (21-Sept-2016)?
We got a flyer yesterday in the mail about it, spent some time drooling lol
The invitation I received to visit the new Cabela's store in Ottawa on Wed 21 Sep indicated that the grand opening was scheduled for Thurs 22 Sep. 20% discount for all in stock regularly priced merchandise. I plan to take a look at the new place on Wed.

Unfortunately I will be laid up for a week or two after some day surgery on Tuesday so I am going to miss the grand opening week - but if I am feeling better, I might venture to the west end the following week (during a weekday only, I think it will be NUTS there on the weekend).
Good luck... looking forward to your "trip report" (your opinion on how it looks and the prices/deals...would be great if posted here).
I visited a Cabela's in Edmonton about a month ago and enjoyed it but was kind of disappointed a little - prices were extremely high - I regularly do a comparison of 5 or 7 exact tackle items (that I frequently/always use) between Lebarons, Canadian Tire, Sail, and now I'll add in our new Cabelas - so far the resounding winner, based exclusively on price is Lebarons.
you may find LaBarons will start lowering their prices to keep their customers.
That is what happened here in the Toronto Area

We'll be there Wednesday night, hope to run into you!
Take care and enjoy the weekend everyone

Yeah I've heard the same from a number of people regarding pricing but still fun to go and look.
Get well soon!
Jay, I believe that the 20% discount is only on Cabela's Branded products. I plan to be there on the 21st shortly before lunch. Curious to see and compare to Bass Pro Shop, Sail, LeBaron.

You are completely correct. I miss stated the promotion - my bad.

Well, the trip was fun...we had a busy night and didn't get there until about 8:00pm.
The store itself is very nice and instantly draws you in with a multitude of fishing / hunting doo dads, gadgets and whachamacallits, most of which I'm sure we could easily convince ourselves "we needed".
I'll be honest, my wife and I didn't investigate pricing much as we ended up going with an agenda of what we wanted.
Picked up a 10 slot dehydrator, a cast iron cook set and a couple of bows for the girls (Bear Archer 1st shoot).
The girls had a ton of fun as they had a section with outdoor related toys (stuffed wolves, bears, books on chipmunks etc) and thought seeing fish and animal mounts was pretty cool.
Katie and I were impressed that the girls could identify most of the mounts (fish and game) before seeing the signage!
Katie loved the cookware/food prep area as well as the decor section (outdoor lamps, nicknacks etc).
And me, well I was pretty happy to see the whole family so excited to be in an outdoors store, I really never expected to hit this point!
Plus the stuff in there was cool too! LOL
Looked for a bow for myself (and possibly Katie too) but they didn't have the model I've been investigating and the archery section was pretty busy anyhow so we thought we'll leave that adventure until later.
Hope anyone else who showed up had fun!
Sounds like you had a good first impression Fort Wisers.
I have a Cabelas near me, about 5 miles (almost 10 km?). I hit it often, but we have another chain store here that usually has lower prices on the same items.
Sounds like you had an enjoyable evening ! Do they have a restaurant in the store ? The one closest to me is in Wheeling,W.Virginia, they have a restaurant with some pretty exotic dishes on the menu !

SgtCrabby,
Cabelas.ca and Cabelas.com are two distinct business entities. Unfortunately for Canadians, we're unable to get some products at Cableas.ca that are routinely available at Cabelas.com.
I visited the new Cabelas.ca store in Ottawa on Wed. Of course, the parking lot was full and the store was packed. Glad I didn't need to buy anything because the ckeckout line up extremely long. Regardless, I'm happy we have this new outdoors store in town. It will provide some competition from a price and service perspective.

Now, I am reading that LeBarons is closing its doors.
They are calling it restructuring but the stores are liquidating their stock.

Hi John,
I was in the Ottawa LeBarons store about 8 weeks ago. The cupboards looked bare. So much so, that when I checked out, I asked the cashier whether LeBaron's was closing their Ottawa branch. Her response: "I hope not because I need this job".
Jay
Wow - shocked a little about the Lebarons closing post from Rhybak, so I did a quick search and found this...

To bad, but I get the challenge about going up against the big competition (Cabelas, Sail, ...).
LOL...That is where I got my information from.
Oh wow, that's too bad.....
For the Ottawa folks, I popped into LeBarons today about noon - lots of GIANT signs that say up to 50% off... the entire fishing section (rods/reels and all lures, line, etc.) is only 20% off and the shelves/stock-pegs are starting to be have holes.
Did I find anything great I had to have to justify standing in the 50 person line-up at the cash? Nope... walked out 15 minutes later past the line-up.
I was honestly looking to buy a new spinner reel as one of my reel's drag is not functioning... would I go back if the fishing gear was 50% off? Absolutely!!... but not mid-day on a Saturday!
P.S. Still haven't made it out to Cabela's... anybody go lately?
@Greg thanks for the LeBarons update....
We're hoping to hit Cabela's on the way to camp again this Friday.
For a bass guy Cabela's isn't impressive, for walleye they have everything and reasonable I thought. You can buy bulk bags of jigheads, ones I want are never in stock!!
LeBarons was a great store when I lived close to one, they are a ma & pa type of business, new big box stores run a better business model and unfortunately one of my fav chains has to close.
