Hmmmm...very interesting! I never bothered to wash hands/lure after catching a pike and never saw a decrease in the walleye bite. This takes it a step further. I'll have to try the strip of pike belly meat. One question for anyone...is it legtal in Quebec to bait with a piece of pike?
NortonJoe,
No, in Quebec, one can not legally use any game fish, in whole or in part, as bait. Here's an excerpt from Quebec's Sport Fishing Regulations:
Fish prohibited as bait
In waters where baitfish is permitted, it is prohibited to use and have in one’s possession for use as bait the following species, whether live or dead, whole or cut up:
Bass
Brown bullhead
Channel catfish
White perch
Crucian carp
Pike
Redhorse
Panfish
Walleye
Sturgeon
Channel darter
Round goby
Lamprey
Mooneye
Goldeye
Longnose gar
Burbot
Freshwater drum
Muskellunge
Char
Yellow perch
Bowfin
Salmon
Tench
Lake trout
Jay
Here's an excerpt from the Saskatchewan Fishing Regulations:
the non-edible parts of a fish taken by angling, such as the eye, belly skin or internal organs can be used as bait and the fish from which the parts were taken must be included in your limit;
@Jay Thomas that's what I had rememebered reading somewhere. Thanks for the confirmation.
