Saw this video a few weeks ago, so of course I went out and picked-up a couple of Rapala Snap Rap and Jiggin' Rap to try on Kipawa in a few weeks. What I liked was that you can cover water and look for bait clouds, then go to work with this presentation.
Just wanted to see if anyone has tried this in general...not only on Kipawa. What surprised me are these guys are catching really nice walleyes on a dead still, blue bird day. There is a good chance for days like that in late-July and early-August.
I usually don't fall victim to the next best bait, but this looked like a good fit for Kipawa.

I've used these in some areas on the kawartha's and Nip and done quite well. I would think if you can get on top of them it would do quite well on Kipawa, I was actually thinking of trying them mid day on our next trip :)
I have not tried it yet. I bought a couple snap raps and moonshine shiver minnows to try this year.
T-Bone, I tried the 2" perch ice fishing jig the first week of July last year on the shoal between Corbeau Island and Alwaki. We had been catching lots of walleye in 18 to 22 FOW on jigs with 1/3 of a crawler or a leech when they shut down completely as they can do. I tied on the Rap jig and proceeded to boat 3 or 4 eyes in quick succession, then it went dead again.Give it a try when things die down, it's worth it.
I know a few walleye tournament guys that use them, I haven't tried myself.
I seen a show before going up to Alwaki this year on that technique and was thinking about trying it but just couldn't bring myself to buy more tackle. If the fishing stays the same for you it shouldn't be a problem.
Yep, I've used jigging raps for a couple years now, both on Kipawa and other lakes- faired pretty well with it. Also use them for open water lake trout and whitefish. Being a heavy bait, it allows you to stay vertical and feel the bite in deep water.
I used both the jigging raps, snap raps and moonshine shiver minnow this past week. I caught one on a shiver minnow. In my opinion, the technique will work, but it takes practice.
