Not sure where the 32st falls on the calendar but I’m envious. ;). Plz give us an update that will help us along until we see Kipawa again.
Brain fart... I meant the 21st. Thx T-Bone.
was around the lake on the snowmobile yesterday.
I got word the roads around Red Pine are clear of snow. The lake is starting to thaw out at that end. The current coming under the bridge clears the ice in that area in a hurry. I'm sure the spawn has started by the bridge. I'm going up in the morning. I'll post some pictures tomorrow afternoon.
Have a great trip in
@puckster_guy!
Our oldest daughter and I just got back from Mattawan, snow is going quick and the ice on ponds is rotting nicely.
Hey Puckster
You are likely on your way But here is and update from Lake Temiscaming, about 20 mile due west of you, as the bird flies!
Most of the snow is gone no problem getting into camp.
Water is very low for may 5, But raising fast

they plow red pine in the winter if they are logging so you should be fine.
I made it to camp alright. Maniwaki was rough in spots and could use a grading. Pot holes and ruts every where. Red Pine rd. was rough as well. They are working on the new stretches and I hear wanna get done this summer. There's now snow on the roads and some in the shady areas. The ice is breaking up all around my place, we should be ice free within a week. Here's a pics I took today....

The light at the end of the tunnel!! Thanks Puckster.
Great pics Puckster, thanks for the report
Anyone know how the Bearn road is? We may go in that way as we are in the Hunters point area. We are bringing a sleigh in case our back road is still snow covered. Not taking any chances!
Thanks for sharing your pics Puckster. It's always nice to see Kipawa during various seasons. I appreciated the picture of the ruffed grouse too :)
Jay
Thanks for the pics....looks like it's only a day or two from totally breaking up though...which is not evidenced by yesterday's satellite view...

Nice picks Puckster. Looks like some ski Doo tracks in the ice.
The blue of the lake in the second picture says it all. Kipawa blue. Can’t wait to get back.
@puckster_guy what part of the lake is that picture of strong current?
Does anyone have a report on the road condition of Chemin De Maniwaki back to lac Grindstone?
Thank you!
Hey Puckster Is the last pic of the dock and current at your camp?
Cheers
Rick

That's got to be Red Pine Chute...and I think he's not "on" the Chute, but close...
Satellite shot from May 8
Ice is getting darker

Right out front of the outflow from the chute about yds away.
I would think the road to Grindstone is still a week or so out snowmobiles will pack it down during the winter so last to go out.

@crackers42 you talking about windy lake road? It's still partly covered but the UTVs / ATVs have started using it.

Thats just past the bridge at Red pine chutes. That's mostly gone in mid June.
Not my camp Rick. That's on the main road in. I'm a couple more km in. I took a drive to get some water near Booth lake. All the roads were snow free, and rivers swollen.

Hey Puckster, would you mind providing an explanation as to why you needed to drive to a place near Booth Lake to get water. Do your long term plans for your Kipawa home include drilling a well? Just wondering.
Jay
Hey, Jay. There's a small spring there where many local get their drinking water. Lake water pumped thru the house provides for washing and some cooking purposes. The spring water is for my coffee pot and drinking. Eventually a well make an appearance. Right now I have too many other major expenses to worry about. BTW the grouse are everywhere around here.
Looks like that's it for ice at this end of the lake. Been windy and warm all week.. Today a nasty north wind seems to have pushed all the surface ice down here. A few square yrds of surface ice is all thats left here.
What's the chance we are gonna get into Alwaki for the long weekend!! I'M GETTING PUNCHY!! LOL!
No worries Greg, Your in. All the ice will be off everywhere in the next couple of days.
So, that ponders the question, when is the ice OFFICIALLY out of Kipawa, and who is the winner?

Awesome!!
So your saying we can run from town of Kipawa to Corbeau for long weekend?
Contact Wayne at Kipawa Lodge to ascertain when you can make your trip. Wayne will no doubt be on the water as soon as possible to get ready for the opener.
Jay
Hey Guys, Just to let everyone know that I arrived at the lodge today. Not an easy task. Had to travel the old bush road by ATV. Then break ice with the boat for a 1/4 mile. That was it. Then portage a canoe across a cattail swamp to open water on Hunters lake then paddled across. Launched one of my aluminums, went back and portage my supplies to the boat. Only took 6 hours! Here to stay. Glad to be back. Ice is not out! I am hoping to launch the of the taxi boats by Monday, Tuesday at the latest and drive in from Kipawa. Will post when that happens, so we can determine the winner of the ice out contest. Happy fishing everyone!
Thanks Wayne. Very kind of you to respond. Sounds like some tough slogging.
Jay
Yes Jay, It was a real work out. Worth all of the effort. Thanks to my wife and business partner of 38 years was right with me step by step just as anxious to get back to our little piece of paradise as I am. Couldn't ask for a better day!

That's awesome.. already not sleeping!! 4 more days!!!!
I'm going back up on monday till thursday with a buddy from work. Looking for at least one fry... I gotta drop in my buddy Kieth and his gang of hapless mechanics also looking for some fresh walleyes, for a beer on my way in...
Going to camp on Monday the 25th till July 5th. The usual fish and work trip Gotta finish off a couple of bedrooms and give the weed wacker a run for it's money. Sometimes I wonder if I bit off more then I can chew but I'm in no hurry to finish. :) ;D 8) If anybody's cruising thru stop by for an ale.
Have fun
@puckster_guy ......don't worry, anyone who owns a camp has second guessed the mentality of such an endeavor, myself included, many times LOL.
But on those occasions when it all comes together there's no mistaking it's all worth the hard work, blood, sweat and tears.
Keep up the great work, your place looks amazing, you've come a long way in a short period of time.
I'm often envious you're where you are on your project as we have a long way to go to get our place to the state you're in.
Enjoy every moment, even when you're swearing at the place LOL.
was up your way this week puckster, lots of big fish around the left corner from you.
Smallest was around 2 pounds biggest topped out at 12.
Fish were either in 8 feet or suspended in 30 down 20.
Very sever thermalclient @ 60 feet and trout were right on top of it.
Good to know Crackers, thx. The fish should start showing up in their usual summer spots by now.
I just made it to camp an hour or so ago. Fired up the propane fridge and mostly unloaded the jeep. Still 300sqft of laminate flooring left. That can wait til morning, after my troll. Red Pine rd. Is looking awesome. all the new sections are weaved in and already it's faster and straighter. Still kinda rough as they have much work to do. But looking good! :) Just about to put a couple of burgers and the bbq, then launch boat and see what I can find.....
Puckster, you need to post a picture if you're going to tease us with that kind of description (refering to the BBQ and boat)!
Sounds awesome, enjoy your time up there, thanks for always sharing your adventures and for the red pine road report.
