Trip Reports / Ogascanan 8/4-8/10
Last post by TeamEsox - August 26, 2024, 07:40:50 PM
Hi all,
Sorry for the late report but here goes!
My dad and I arrived at Ogascanan Sunday, 8/10 around 11am or so.  The road going in wasn't great but not awful. We set up camp at the "point cabin" near the lodge and headed out.  Windy evening, one walleye.  Surface temp 81 degrees F!
Monday morning was pretty calm so we ran up to the Ferguson Bay Area.  We usually do good there, but the warm water made things tricky.  We did get 2 slot walleyes and one short, along with 5-6 pike too.  Monday evening was spent mostly jigging down south on our favorite shoal and the eyes were all over it.  10 walleye (7 slots, one over slot) were released.
Tuesday we bought the ticket and took the ride to Taylor bay.  Water temp was 76 up there.  6 pike and 3 nice slot walleye released.  The rest of the week was mostly like this.  We caught walleye in 7 to 34 feet of water throughout the week which was a little odd we thought, seeing them scattered. Pike were mostly small no matter how deep we fished.  The hot water made casting baits tough beyond early am since fish were pushed down so far.
We hit Taylor again as well as our Ferguson stretch a few more times
And caught a few here and there till Saturday.  86 fish total (one sucker, 8 yellow perch factored into the final count, biggest walleye 24", biggest pike 28") so it wasn't bad my any means.  Guys there a week before us said they had 7 fish for the whole week.  That summer heat can be a killer!

Hello everyone.
I hope that you all have been having a great season so far.
The conditions have definately been keeping us on our toes this year.
Lots of intense heat, mixed with rain, winds, storms. A challenging year on the water for sure.
Perhaps the fall will be easier fishing..

I haven't posted on this board in some time, and as i sit with a rare couple free minutes i thought i would share a pic of a couple visitors we have had.
I understand the town of Temiskaming is having some issues with bears this year.
We normally see signs of them at our camp.
This is the first sighting we have had this year. Last one looks rather cute.. haha.

Cheers everyone!Spypoint_20240822_074745.jpg

Fishing Discussion / Heading to CVL and Bass
Last post by Kill Switch - August 22, 2024, 11:30:21 AM
Hey folks,
Heading to Cedar Valley on Sunday. Thought about exploring the waters near 2 Moons and Taggert. Is that where "the narrows" are located? I heard that there is a ton of bass. Thought I would try my mid day fishing there.
Thoughts or comments?
Feel free to comment or message me. Happy to share my August spots as well. Hoping the water temp is normal.

Thanks!

Great Report NortonJoe!!!!  Hope you left some for us this fall!  Zec Kipawa has a post about the washout.  The map shows it at the 90 km marker on what I call (and most here call) the Bearn Road.  (Southeast of the bridge into Hunters Point and Northwest of the Bearn Road and Red Pine Road intersection.)  Zec called it the Penetration Road on the post.  I was told the Penetration Road went east and west North of Lake Kipawa over to Trout Lake Road.
