The ice fishing is a Quebec Province wide ban on ice fishing in ANY lake with a Lake Trout population.

It was a legislation lobbied for by anti-fishing groups, contrary to the last 100 yrs + of fisheries management of using keep limits, slot sizes and seasons for individual species.

If there are Lake Trout present - NO ice fishing allowed for any species.

Law makes zero sense - if they really wish to protect Lake Trout, there should be no open season for them in the summer months when release mortality % is very high due to the warm water affects at surface and air bladder issues from catching at depths.

Winter release mortality rates are much lower than warm water months.

We need a petition signed by perhaps a few thousand people to apply for an exception - Quebec has exempted some other lakes already.

Iphone 16 and newer now have off cell satellite texting and emergency texting capability.

You may have to get to a clearing or higher ground but you can text for help .

Ville-Marie is good enough for most things. My dad had an allergic reaction a little while ago and they did him fine. Fabre opened up a walk-in clinic.

Anything severe, you're most likely getting flown to North Bay or Val D'Or. there was a boat crash on lac dumoine last summer, guy was heli'd out to North Bay.

Carry a sat phone if you're really worried, but you can call or text off your iPhone if it's new enough. My 14 lets me satellite text.

After a bit of research I found AIG Travel Guard Insurance offers some pretty good medical insurance packages that will cover pretty much everything.

We purchased a ZOLEO satellite communicator for emergencies. Download an app to your phone and syncs through Bluetooth. We can text, share location and you can press emergency tab on the phone or on the ZOLEO itself. I had a phone but I like this a lot better. I imagine they figure it out when they get the alert.

We had a reason to visit the facility, and it was a good experience. Confident in the care and facility. Not quite the Cleveland Clinic, but was good.
