Does anyone out here have direct knowledge of "what is at" Mungo Depot down on Lac Grindstone? I read an old post from the other board that states there is a boat launch there and a gravel parking area near the boat launch. Anything else? Private cabins? Other? And, just for reference, how long of a drive (KMs and time) is it down the Maniwaki Road from Kipawa to Mungo Depot? I know there are variables, but go with the road being in average condition. Thanks.

Hope everyone is well and enjoying a relaxing holiday season...

I haven't been there in about 15 years but here's what I remember. There were a few privately owned cottages and a few camping trailers.  There was a boat launch but not sure in what state it would be today, I always had a cartop boat when I used to go there, before I bought my cottage near Bronson Island.  I know some people that could give more up to date details, I'll try and get back.  In the meantime, someone may chime in.

Mungo Depot is at mileage 32 approx and it takes about 1/2 hour maybe a little more depending on the road condition. There is a boat launch, it's being used so it must be in fair shape. There is parking, not a huge parking lot but a few vehicles would be able to park there. There are private cottages around there as well.

I'm going to go ahead and revive this topic in case there's anyone who has been there since the topic was first started.

Personally, I haven't been to Mungo in well over 20 years but wonder what it still offers in terms of public access (if anything)?
Anyone been there lately (as in the last couple of years)?
Is there still public parking? Is the public launch still avail. etc. etc.?
And does anyone have any contact information to whoever might be running the depot if it is indeed still being run?

I believe even as recent as a few years ago (early 2010s) they were still renting houseboats and am pretty sure they even had a website but now we can't seem to find anything online.
Thanks

All I can add is that I launched my SeaDoos there in 2012 and it was a nice deep launch. Parking was tight as there were a lot of vehicles taking up the lot. I had to park on the road in just before the lot. Cottage owners are allowed to build a dock (they probably only allow floating docks now) to leave their boat there while away from camp. There's a lot of docks in Mungo for that reason.
I snowmobiled there last winter and nothing has changed really. The houseboats were on land.

Thanks @limacharley appreciate the insight. So is it sort of a "free for all" (not the term I mean but can't think of how to phrase it LOL) to help service the camps at Mungo Island / Grindstone area?
And did you have to pay to launch / park?
Just didn't want to get down there and have someone come running because we're using their private land.

Maybe I should just be less lazy and take a drive down there LOL.
Thanks again....

I didn't pay and no one came looking for me. I believe Corine at Kipawa Bait had a camp in that area. She may be able to answer your questions.

I can shed some light as I am one of the owners of camps in Mungo.

There is parking up the gravel pit on a comfortable day probably holds about 10 trucks with trailers

Launch is probably one the best ones around (And yes deep) although the platform on the dock there needs some work (careful)

It is used a lot from cottage owners up around Grindstone area and also up Narrows. and locals that live in town and commute back and forth to camp.

I suspect this will be main ramp for the new owners of Joes

I believe some other lodges use it (or did) for transporting garbage (which was frustrating as they left it overnight in the back of the trucks) and fuel.

33 mile marker to be exact and about (puckster can correct me if I am wrong) about 8 mile from the turn off to red pine (newly constructed road)

Originally this property was a logging camp, once purchased we cleared the whole property built the camp and eventually we cut a road in from the main road.

Parking (depending on the months) can be tight down by the dock.

When you go down to the dock on the left is where alot  of trucks park.  Although we have not said much over they years that is actually private property but dont mind parking there as long as people are respectful of others (always a bunch that are not).

There are actually three main (titled) lots here (although it appears as only two).

I would say it is one of the most used landings in the whole kipawa system.

Hopes this helps.

Hey @crackers42 this is great information and much appreciated.
Is the road into your area and parking area cleared in the winter?

Thanks for sharing......

Mungo is the 33 mile marker. Red pine rd is just past 38
