Hi everyone, just got back so here's the scoop - there was rain, there was sun, it started off 35 degrees and ended in the teens - quite the mix but the fish were still active and Reggie kept us dry and mostly bug free (the rumours that its a bad bug year are pretty true). We got some good sized fish and lots of smaller ones and managed several good feeds (spiced penko crusted oven baked is my new favourite). I think we covered the bases with pike, bass, walleye and trout all making an appearance.

The biggest walleye (26" and fat) came on a spinner bait at 2pm casting into shorelines - always seems to happen, go figure. Jigging out performed floats and trolling worm harnesses also produced (including a couple decent northerns).

Water temps were around the 70 mark but the with the big cold front mid week it really did swing from 72 to 67. Mayflies were hatching but not carpet style - just enough to worry you but I guess not enough to turn them off leeches or worms :)

Anyhow, another good week - have a bunch of pictures but haven't had a chance to really go through them yet but I edited a bunch of the videos together and I've put up on youtube for anyone who wants to see, be sure to switch it to high def:

Great video Sean! I love the GoPro shots! I know I said this before on here, but I would love to get one. Probably isn't going to happen this year, but they are cool. I assume you like yours?

Nice fish, and I love watching videos of that black Kipawa water. I will be there live in less than two weeks! Can't wait, but much needs to get done before that happens so I will be glad when I am on the water.

Thanks for taking the time to tell us how things went. Too bad about the crazy weather! Post that video to facebook if you haven't already and don't mind, I am sure some people on there will enjoy seeing it.

     Cheers,
     Brad

600 miles north is where I'd rather be!

thanks for sharing some details of your trip and the more I see the GoPro videos the more I love them, especially the net mounted camera, very cool idea!

On a side note, I've lost a few fish with that netting technique... you find it works well for you?

Your report is linked in the master index.

I had net problems all week but never did lose one (only fish I lost was a nice smallie that threw the hook on a jump). My issues were all self imposed though:

1. Not extending the net before starting to fish so trying to catch them with a short handle
2. Solo fishing with a heavier then then I'd like - trying to catch with the net between the legs
3. Not a deep enough net - too many fish too big for it. Thats a problem I can live with :)

As for the go pros - I've got 3 now, two of the older models that I used for the net and under water and one newer go pro 3+ (silver edition). The newer one is in a different league, love it.  Also got an aqua view handheld camera which was a riot when jigging (easily see everything in 10-20' water).

Great video Sean. Kind of felt like I was in the boat with you. Thanks, Oarin

Wow, that was fantastic. Pics are great, but nothing tells the story like video. That was some great footage. Thanks for posting!!

RHYBAK

That was a great video.
I really don't think ours will be anywhere close to that.
Good job.
Thanks for sharing.
Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

Haven't had the chance to check out the vids and pics yet, but thanks for making them available...and thanks for the report. I'll get out there to check out those vids by end of day today.

Spinning rigs at 2PM into the shoreline, eh? Would those be inline spinners, and if so...what size was getting it going?

Thanks again.
Embrace every moment...you only get it once

I always bring along a few as a) they're relatively cheap and b) you can toss em right up on shore (or in a tree.... ::) ) and almost never snag and c) anything that swims will take a swipe at them.
