Jig and drift

So we were able to head back to lake Dumoine for the first time in 3 years. Overall is was a great trip. The drive up from Ohio was easy. The boarder was about 4 cars deep in each line and took 10 minutes. Traffic was smooth all the way to North. Stayed in Temiscaming at Bercail as always. Purchased licenses on line in advance which was a nice change. So we usually eat breakfast at the little dinner below the Canadian hotel but it is no longer open for breakfast. With that we headed into the bush. The Manawaki and Red Pine roads were great. The Bearn road heading east was pretty good until the hills and rocks about 20 miles in. The last 10 miles were a little rough but that is also normal. A curvert was out and a couple mud pits and we are their before 9:30 which was great. Load boats and head to camp and all is smooth.
Set up camp get ready to fish head out and the rain hits. Comes down in buckets and the wind picks up . Fishing is slow but we all catch enough eaters so we have no issues. It was cold the first two nights. Used the wood burner and life was good. Day two was all wind. It was a tough go all day.  My wife and brother -in- law carried the load on keeper over the next couple days. My son and I contributed but they did the heavy work. We trolled more this year than ever maybe but the hotntots did the job. The last couple days were just beautiful weather and the fishing was great. The wife had the biggest of the week at 5lbs 25 inches. Plenty of eaters and took our limit home. Boy it was good to be back up north. Went to some areas of the lake we had never been too which was fun. Overall great week.
We have been going to Dumoine for over 25 years and it was just as successful and enjoyable as always. Found some new spots and everything was in good working order.   The drive home was as easy as the drive north. Smooth   and traveled at a great pace.   Looking forward to next year already.

Nice report...thanks for posting. I've always thought about fishing Dumoine...just haven't pulled the trigger, I guess. Glad you had a great week...and safe.
