Anyone else here know someone or themselves go sledding in the winter around Kipawa?

Sadly, I don?t spend as much time on Kip as I want to, as I know attend university in Halifax, and can only go to Kipawa from May to August, which I work!

My older brother is sledding around Kipawa right now and says the snow is great and the trails are well groomed.

I wish I could spend more time on the lake, but hopefully I can go sledding on my winter break in February.

So I?m asking all of y?all, do you spend any time at Kipawa over the winter?

Hi @LanielKid hope all is going well for you out east.

Sledding on / around Kipawa, that takes me back, it's been a few years but it was always fun.
Since we sold our Kipawa place back a number of years ago now I haven't been sledding in that area in quite some time.
Even now down where our current camp is (down near Mattawa) the only time I get out on the sled is to go pack the trails, which is fine with me.

Many good memories though from when our crew was younger, heading out for the day to explore, see who's out and about etc etc then return to camp to warm up, sit by the fire and sip a coffee or what have you.

I was up at our place Friday night thru Saturday to clear the snow, it was really late coming this year but we are in decent shape now.
In our area the snow depth was about 18-24", some areas deeper, some a little sparse, certainly enough to put in a good base for the trails.
I believe Kipawa may have a bit more....I'm not sure how the lake ice is though as the cold temps have been hit and miss.

Enjoy your times out east, hope you make it back to Kipawa soon.....

Good amount of snow in Kipawa area and the groomer has been on the trails.  There is very limited lake travel.... stay on the tracks and be careful. Personally I wouldn't go unless you are very familiar and or in daylight.  Apparently a sled and ATV went through on Friday.  I have no further details on that but as far as I know all are OK and the sled may still be taking a bath.  As well, it's been getting warmer this week so not really improving.  Have fun, but stay safe

I've sledded in and around lake Kipawa many winters with another cottage owner. We leave from Bronson Island.

Try to avoid any narrows with current like Hunter's Narrows, Butney Narrows. You'll find trails cut around these areas by locals. They're not marked but the sled tracks should be obvious.
Be careful on Hunter's Lake as there are usually some pressure cracks. Travel at reasonable speeds. Never go alone.

We've rode the area logging roads more east of Baie Pratt, around Lac Smith and Windy. Even travelled across Maniwake into the Lac Beauchene area. These roads are not groomed but can be fun and great for sight seeing.

Sitting in front of a nice warm fire having a beer is rewarding.
