Hello!

As a 3 seasons Camp Returnee since 2014, I have regrettably not fished the main lake much at all. Our group has typically gone to the back portage lake (Bat Lake) during the days and still fished the main lake at night blue barrel, rock man, dinosaur. Our group getting older have now elected to be more wild and have done a fly in trip up north more. Myself at 29 years old have taken this opportunity to sneak up to Kipawa to try to get some of my friends in to fishing. This year one of our group members is dead set against going to the back lake portage so I have a feeling we will need to be fishing the main lake during the day. I do know the north sanctuary and moose creek area fairly well. But being the only experienced person along I will be relied upon for most of the intel. We are going June 15-19 and my assumption is this year with water temperatures it will be acting like an early July trip for locations. Primarily I troll and have limited knowledge on Chemagan Bay. Next to no knowledge on the Hay Bay Humps, Bell Isle and Hidden Lake areas if anyone is able to provide insight or any other spots to take a look at. I will have along a solid graph and I have good knowledge of where the hazards are so really just looking for some insight!

Much Appreciated any insight or feedback.

RHYBAK

I will be there the weekend before so I will have more insight for you but stick to the spots that you mentioned.
Dinosaur
Blue Barrel
Smith Bay

Those are all June spots no matter what the spring has been like.
Try float fishing with your float set at 6-7 feet.
Save your gas. No need to troll
Wind blown shorelines , all day fishing.
The mid lake humps are more August and September.
Stay shallow
Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

Appreciate that!

Thank you for the insight aswell! Unfortunately we do like trolling so will be focused on that during the day. In the 10 years I've been going I've never ventured into smith bay at all! Just the rock face at the entrance to it.

I agree
That rock face can be good at times
I've had very good luck there in the past

I concur with RHYBAK's comments. Just another suggestion to try because one never knows exactly where the walleye will be. Mid to late Jun is Smith Bay time and slip bobbering is the ticket. While 6-7 feet is great advice from RHYBAK, sometimes we had great success bouncing our slip bobbers (set for 3 feet) right off the Smith Bay shoreline. Whatever works!

Thank you! Yes I have the slip bobbers ready! It will be interesting focusing on smith bay for the first time. Got a new to me himummingbird graph ready and studied the depths on smith bay, and back behind blue barrel have some spots marked on both. I'll probably spend one day trolling/then still fishing at night in smith bay. And do them same in the bay behind blue barrel And go from there.

Thanks for all the advice!

Murph -

Our group will be up at 3 Seasons the same time as you - our second year staying there. I've been reading these posts with interest, looking for tips on new spots we might try, although we did pretty good last year scouting around on our own.

Just curious - where are Rock Man, Blue Barrel, and Dinosaur? I search for those spots on the Kipawa Points of Interest map, but they don't show up. Can you help?

Looking forward to our trip and meeting up with you.

IRA

These are camp names that have been labeled for certain fishing spots.
Somebody in camp should be able to point them out

They are all north and I know from last year, all of your group likes to go south.

Thanks, Rhybak.

One correction - our group likes to go WHERE THERE ARE FISH! :D  :D

We'll ask around about those locations when we get up there and will be sure to check them out. We discussed at our pre-trip meetings that we should assign boats to scout out new spots.

We're hitting the road in 18 days - can't wait!
