We purchased our first Alumacraft in 2002. We went through what Rambler is going through now, visiting every boat dealer and going to the local boat shows. What sold us on the Alumacrafts was the 2XB bow and their fit and finish and meeting the local dealer. It just looked like a boat with better craftsmanship than some of the others we looked at. Our dealer is a cut way above the mold, couldn't ask for better people. We are very lucky to have a dealership of that caliber close by. They believe in customer service, the best you can get. We ordered the first boat with a vinyl floor and carpet up on top surfaces. That way the floor would be easier to clean and as for the top, you can lay your jigs or lures on the carpet without them walking away. That was the first boat that our dealership had ordered like that. They built it to our wishes, and we really like it that way. The first boat was their Lunker series but the name has now been changed to something else with modifications. It served us very well. The only issue was that with the 40hp Honda on it, most of the lakes here in our area of Pa have a 20 hp restriction on them. (We aren't as lucky as Rambler). When we originally bought the boat most of the lakes had a 9.9 restriction. So that is what we had on the boat. You could swim faster than that boat would go. Shortly after that they raised the restrictions on the lakes but finally settled on the 20hp. We then jumped from the 9.9 to a Honda 40 hp, and it was a fantastic boat for fishing in Canada. We just loved it and held many memories for us. (@Dog, I hope you don't mind that I used your pic)

We had been thinking about a different boat with a smaller motor so we could use it more around here. Talked about putting a smaller motor on the old boat, but we had 2 bolt holes below the water line that held the 40hp. We were over at the dealer before we went to Canada getting some service work done. They had a 14.5 ft boat in the showroom with a 20hp motor on it. After much discussion as most husbands and wives do   ;), and when the dealer said this was a 2013 boat, never titled, and the new ones would be $1000 more, we settled on the new boat. It also has the vinyl floor with the carpet on top just like the old one.  :) We made the deal with the understanding we could take the old boat to Canada. That 40 got us around the lake in nice fashion, about 30 miles an hour. The new one will go 20 miles an hour, so it's not too bad. The layout is almost identical to the old boat.

We like the Alumacraft/Honda combination.

Nice boat John. Saw that same boat at our dealer.
Here's the one we're looking at.

I wouldn't wait too long or you might be back to looking again.  That is a great looking boat and Alumacraft boats are very well built.  Our old boat was 12 years old and all the rivets were still tight, no leaks.

Hey John, I like the looks of it but its not exactly what I want. I saw a few Alumacrafts with the vinyl bottom and liked that feature. Its gotta be easier to clean than the carpet, especially for the nightcrawler mess. I liked the storage and layout, but I'm 6'-2" 250lbs and I felt alittle cramped behind the wheel. I think that has more to do with my fat a** that the actual boat layout. Kind of holding out to see what the 2015 models look like. I hope you get years and years of fishing enjoyment out of your new baby.
