I believe I've read out here before the general location of the primary 'sanctuaries' that are strictly closed to fishing up until "Date X/Y/ZZZZ".

Two questions...can anyone shine some light on what 'sanctuary' means and how it's defined? I'm confident they're designated as no fishing areas up to a certain date where fish (primarily walleyes on Kipawa, I'd guess) can spawn without being scooped up by humans....a strictly OFF LIMITS area. I recall fishing on Lake Wabitongushi once where we would fish for walleyes right up to the line (a bridge) entering a designated sanctuary, but NEVER over that line. I guess what I'm trying to determine is where the designated sanctuaries are on Kipawa and where "the line" is in relation to these sanctuaries. And is the date you're permitted to go into a sanctuary a week / two weeks / three weeks / etc. PAST the species opener date?

I really have no interest in exploiting this, I'm just wondering.

Hope everyone is well...stay warm!!!

Went up to that area last year. I believe its the "North Sanctuary" that is up near Moose Island. There were signs along the shoreline.

Hi Todd

Here's an excerpt from the 2014 sportsfishing regulations

lac Audouin  -  its outlet stream, between a point located 300 metres downstream of the former North River dam and the first narrowing upstream of the dam (46°51' N 78°47' W).

lac aux Sables - The north-east tributary of lac, between a point 100 m downstream of its mouth and the Belleterre pumping station.

lac Belisle - its outlet, between lac Kipawa and its first widening (47°03'53" N 78°56'05" W), as well as the lac Kipawa (47°08'00" N 79°00'01" W) bay downstream of this outlet.

lac Kipawa - 300 m upstream and 300 m downstream of Turtle falls.

lac Moran - its outlet, between a point situated 1 km downstream of the old dam (47°09'58" N 78°04'21" W) and a point 60 m upstream (47°10'32" N 79°04'42" W).

rivière Barrière - between 300 m downstream and 150 m upstream of the Rémigny bridge.

rivière Kipawa - between a point 100 m upstream of Turner rapids and lac Sairs.

rivière Kipawa - between the first island upstream of the mouth of the river and a point 300 m in lac McLachlin.

The fishing period is June 15, 2014 to November 30, 2014 for all species

I've always fished the northeastern arm of Lake Kipawa. I'm familiar with two sanctuaries in that area where walleye fishing is prohibited until 15 Jun each year. Here's a pic showing the location of those sanctuaries.

Same rules as in red pine chutes. It's posted with signs. Outside the sanctuary lots of boats anchor and fish. They're usually gone in June. I got a few walleye there.
Days spent fishing don't count against life :)
