July Walleye fishing

I would like to get some information on walleye fishing for last of July compared to June.  Also how bad are the bugs during the last of July.

Most of the time the bugs are not too bad towards the end of July BUT the weather is the big factor on bugs.  Plan for some and hope for none.  Temp and water(rain) dictates how bad.  That time frame is when we go.

From our experiences it seems walleye "techniques" are pretty much the same throughout the summer. What matters is finding the correct depth. bugs are mainly skeeters at dusk and those little biting "house flies".

I agree with rambler.  You may have to search for the walleye, but once you find them, they are stacked up.  Weather plays a big part on the bugs and the fish.  We go the 2nd week of July to avoid the bugs.  Skeeters at dusk is pretty much all we have run into in 6 years

I tend to just jig and drift till I find them. starting shallow and working deeper. You find some nice perch under 12 FOW and walleye as deep as 40ft. o/w trolling cranks works for me silver/blue or perch or shad pattern. I stay around 15-20ft.

I agree with pg,15 to 20 ft range is a good place to start !

The only time i've ever fished for walleye in july was last year and we caught all our fish between 18-22 FOW near a drop off or ledge to deeper water. Albeit on Lake Ogascanan my guess is the depth would be the same everywhere up there this time of year...
I'd start at 16 fow and move deeper during the daylight hours. At night shift to midlake humps or shallower areas closer to deeper water.
At least this is my plan until someone with more exprience at TBL tells me differently...

jiggin n driftin is my preferred method to finding the fish, sometimes we troll, but not too often.
