So I created this thread for everyone to share what they think is the coolest technology out right now related to fishing...

Right now I'm intrigued by the automation/ integration of trolling motors and fishfinders.
[Liberty Call has a GPS trolling motor that makes me chuckle each time Flag hits the spot lock, a gps controlled virtual anchor, I call it "hover mode" or pulls up a recorded track... ]

I read something recently on how you can make your own bath maps for a lake with a certain fishfinder and your laptop... drive around the lake with the fish finder active, go home, pull the sd card and put it in your laptop, the software creates a depth and structure map of the lake based on the fishfinder data embedded gps it recorded, take the sd card back out and put it in your fishfinder...
that is freaking cool!
Has anyone tried this? http://www.humminbird.com/Category/Technology/Autochart/

@SgtCrabby The above is just in time so you can retire from mapping!

Seen it, want it, but have to wait to afford it.

From what I've seen, it should work very well once you have enough data points.

I have an Eagle elite 5 with GPS map and depth finder...Can they make an upgrade to accommodate this mapping system??
Days spent fishing don't count against life :)

Take a look at http://doctorsonar.com/ for more information about mapping software. As well, there's presently a good article there about fish arches.

Another cool piece of technology I came across this year was this bad boy http://shop.vexilar.com/en/sonarphone-1/sonarphone-wtransducer-t-pod-phone-not-included--sp100

we were fishing the north shore outside PNC park for bass and this guy walks up and tosses this thing out into the river (with paracord attached as a leash)... and whips out his cell phone. does a few passes to get a feel for where the fish are at and then casts to the fish. Amazing piece of fishing technology for those who have to or like to fish from shore. If you have a smartphone, you have a fishfinder. Pretty cool.

I played around with it and it works real well!
Obviously the larger the screen the better.. thinking about it now, since it' works off a Bluetooth signal, a tablet would be best for display purposes....
