Wow, another great time with my son, Jon, at the Outpost. I wish I had started earlier with him like some of you did. We left upstate NY about 5:30 and got to Temiscaming around 1:00. Got some really large, healthy leeches from the Pronature store and headed to camp. Rolled in about 2:30 and headed the 6 miles to the Outpost Cabin. We spent the next few hours getting the cabin and boat set up and headed out for about an hour and a half of fishing. Got 3 nice keepers and some through backs. Sunday we slept in, had a great dinner of shrimp jambalaya, YUM!! It got very windy and wavy and fishing was tough, as we use slip bobbers. Monday was the same tough weather, but we caught some  with 1 really nice one. Tuesday was another winy day. There were some of the biggest waves I've seen on Queens Bay. We managed get across and caught a few with only one good one, 18'.
Wednesday got up early, windy and cold. No fish. By afternoon we finally got a break in the weather and headed out toward the Narrows. Glad we did!! Jon got a really nice bass too. Picture at the end. Thursday we slept in and caught a few in the PM. We spent time exploring around the cabin area and some of the bays, got back to camp for dinner. On friday at 6:00 we were on our way back to the lodge and home.

We had a great time. The cabin is amazing and the boat and motor are great. The weather wasn't the best for our style of fishing, but we brought home our limit and had a walleye lunch. Thanks to Yves and Lise for letting us come in a day early and avoid the cost of the Auberge and one of their meals. Yves also came out in his boat to invite us to the potluck dinner. He had a pork roast on the spit as well as tastes of bear and moose. Both were excellent. I really didn't expect the bear to be so good. Rambler, your potatoes were great too!

Earlier there was a thread about rods in the boat. Here's our method and a pic of our tie up system. it saves lots of time which can be good if the bugs are bad. Also, if you don't have one of these portable bilge pumps you should get one, sure makes getting water out of the boat easier and faster. Oarin.

-  Early in the week almost all fish were suspended, the as the week moved on they went deeper.
-  By Wednesday most of or fish were from 15-20 feet.
- Jon had best luck with a white glow in the dark jig and I caught almost all of my eyes using a red hook and leech.
-  Why do some people think it's OK to fish 20 feet from us ??
- We miss Tom and Linda Miller. He's had some health issues and we hope to see them next year. Tom, our thoughts and prayers are with you.
- Yves does an excellent job of keeping TBL an fist rate camp. Jon and I are reserved for next year, can't wait!!!

I hope the pictures come out OK, here it goes!

Canuckbass

Oarin

Canuckbass, we had 3 that size. One I caught from shore at the Outpost. Good way to pass time in the afternoon! Sit in a chair, drink beer, smoke a cigar, and catch fish! The one pictured took a good 10 minutes to land.

Hi Gary,

Thanks very much for your report and pictures. Some nice sized walleyes as well as nice sized bass (nice picture of you holding a big eye). Glad to read that you and Jon enjoyed yourselves immensely. Were you using electronics to find your fish or were you just frequenting your favourite locations? Our group departs Ottawa 14 Aug for Club Trout Lake. Looking forward to seeing you at the Auberge on Friday night 21 Aug.

Hi Jay, we did both. We tried some new spots and marked fish. I'll be checking them out again in Aug. We caught most our fish in a place I know brings them in most evenings, as the strong winds limited other areas where I wanted to fish. Jon took some amazing pictures that I hope he posts. Kipawa is a truly beautiful place, no matter the weather. Gary.

600 miles north

Gary, great pics. Glad to hear you two had a great time, and safe travels. still holding a sliver of hope that I will make it up there this fall, but not holding my breath. I sure love checking in and living through the camera lens though. Cheers! Take care Gary!
