It's been a bummer for us that we didn't make it up this year...
Picking bushels of apples right now and turning them into hard cider with a press I made. Look forward to another Ohio State Buckeye football season, sure wish I could be excited about the Browns, but they are horrible again! And Still holding out hope to see Kipawa this fall but not too optimistic...

Really I stand corrected lol.  Maybe its just the Lake Kipawa area.  I will be there in a couple of weeks as I have a lot of friends hunting through outfitters in the area.  I will ask them again

Hunting season prep

Just came back from kipawa, went up to my brother's place to help him throw up some more pine in the interior.
Had a chance to hang out with another good friend as well.
Got home just in time for dinner Sunday night.
During dinner, completely out of the blue, my oldest daughter (who is only 7, turning 8 in a few weeks) asks if she can start hunting?!

My wife doesn't hunt, I haven't really hunted since the kids were first born and we never really talk about hunting in our house as a result.
I mean don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled that my kids seem to be following the tradition but I was also curious where she even got the spark from?
So I asked her a few questions about hunting and taking the life of an animal etc to see if she really understood what it meant to hunt.
I was quite impressed with her answers so I figured what the heck!
I told her this year we will start by getting her a pellet gun so she can learn to shoot.
We will also go out a few times and track various animals etc.
Maybe take her on a few trips north to hunt for ruffed grouse etc.
See where it goes, so that will keep me heading outside until the snow flies anyhow!

If I may suggest a pellet rifle.
I went to BassPro and the salesman recommended a Beeman Rifle to me which I am very pleased with
For 150 dollars, it has a 1100 fps. velocity
comes with a scope and also comes with both the .177 and .22 barrels.
I love it.
Shoots accurately .
Didn't take long to set the scope up either.

Hey @RHYBAK, a pellet rifle is exactly my thoughts. they make some pretty cute looking pink real tree camo units that I know she'll love.

This year any non resident does not have to go  through a outfitter.  Starting in 2016 all non resident moose hunters must go through a outfitter

Heading out to pull the boat out of Lake Ontario on Friday.  The most depressing day of the year.  Will drop it off in Barrie to get serviced, winterized and wrapped for another year.  Look out wine fridge, here I come

Just got back from 5 days on the Lake.  The weather was really windy so we did really fish.  Saw a nice big bull and cow down Macadam's Bay road though.  At least one more trip back this year.  Will post some pictures once I can get them to work on here lol

This weekend is the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend.
We do our traditional family meal on Saturday.
I am heading up tonight to get a jump on some mushroom picking in the A.M.
Put a few boats away during the day.
Hopefully get out for some Pike in the evening.
Saturday will be spent cooking and socializing.
Sunday morning get out for some fall smallmouth then pack my boat away for the season.

The next few weekends will be spent Rainbow Trout fishing,filling up the woodshed and turning water off in our cottages.

After that,the river rainbows will have to tread lightly.
