Friday afternoon I'm with a couple of my Kipawa pals playing some whiteball on one of our favorite courses...drinking beers and sweating in shorts, polo shirt...having a great time just as though it were mid-July. And then...whoo buddy. Saturday...snow showers turn into sideways-blowing squalls, single digit windchill...anything wet iced-up good. Which got me thinking....

What's going on up on Kipawa now? Ice start to form yet? I've noticed it has in the Chapleau area.

Time to almost start the 'official' countdown...but I usually wait for after January 1st for that....

I was river fishing for rainbows on Saturday in 12* centigrade weather.
As the day went on ,the temperature started to drop.
By the time I was driving home, the snow started to fall.

To answer your question...no the ice is not forming.
The water has to drop in temperature before any ice starts to form.

Hi Todd,

Here in Ottawa, we enjoyed nice temperatures (57 degrees F) last week for a few days (warm winds from the south). Rain most of Saturday which switched to snow through the night and continued on Sunday. While the weatherman was predicting up to 8 inches of the white stuff, we ended up with only 1 inch.

Ya, as Jay said, crazy change here for us... beautiful on Friday afternoon (...the sales man where I bought my new boat called me and said you free at lunch?)  ...took me out for a 45 minute ride in the boat before they winterized and stored it... wow, as Rhybak said ... what a teaser to see it before putting it away for 5 months. 

I got to drive it and feel it before the weather hit (I was doing almost 53mph down the river smiling from ear to ear thinking "good decision") - and about 36 hours after my test drive, the snow fell   

I shoveled my driveway and back deck for the first time last night and need to do it again this evening.   sheeshhh.

I was up at camp this weekend. Got in thursday at about 7 and left sunday morning. The weaather was great till sunday. Warm with some sun.temps around 10°C. Saturday afternoon it started to get cold and windy. Then it rained. Sunday morning I woke up to about 6 inches of snow.....
No ice is starting to form yet. Much too warm, tho that seems to be changing.

Almost wanted to head up last Friday with the nice weather. We had a busy weekend in Toronto with the fish camp group.

14" in the Rochester area in NY! Luckily I was in Beaufort SC. Sunny, oysters, shrimp, and fried chicken!!!

I'm glad y'all can handle it, I'd freeze.
Luckily for me, I'm where temps hit the upper 60's fahrenheit (I think that's about 18 C), and mostly sunny.

Went in to Hunter Lake to replace my neighbors dock. 6 inches of snow on the ground driving in. It snowed pretty much all day Saturday while I was in the water to cut up the old dock. The temp was -2/28,  the water was nowhere near ready to freeze and lake is still down at least 2 feet.
Some beer was consumed, bellies filled with great food and many stories told.

We used hemlock for the top. The cribs were in good shape. Everyone pitched in and we were able to complete it early Saturday afternoon.

We will be sledding in this winter. May have to try fishing in the Zec if permissible.
