Spent a week in Dorval Bay area .Fishing was slow all week. I'm attributing this to the unsettled weather and gale force winds on the lake for most of the week. Caught a few pickerel for fish dinners but not enough to be satisfied...lol..most fishing was at the Sandbar mid lake and around Strawberry Island....caught several nice bass in the 2-3 lb range...were limited in exploring due to the rough waters....Did several day trips with the wife to Big Chute and Ville Marie..On the brighter side was able to coax the boss into looking at a cottage that we have had our eye on and we will make an offer soon..after many years of fishing on Kipawa retiring on the lake  is now a definite possibility...dream come true for us !!!  :D

600 miles north

Good luck in your cottage venture!

How was the traffic at the sandbar? Lots of boats anchored around you? that's always a go to spot for us when we are there. usually smaller eyes and catfish are what we have been catching lately. We will be heading up next Thursday to Laniel.

Did you try the area going back to Mac Adams bay at all? The Grande Chute is a beautiful place. were they letting a lot of water down the river at the dam in Laniel?
Sorry all the questions, just getting that itch to get up there!

     Thanks for your report, Cheers!

Brad, 600 miles north is where I would rather be!

Hi..sand bar always had 4-5 boats anchored on west side ..we fished closer to east side of sandbar south of the sand point  in 20 ft to get away from the dreaded Black Lund...lol..no catfish at all..didn't try Mac Adams Bay..was really rough and windy most nights so stayed as close to Dorval Bay as possible...caught a few each night in slot limit with no boats near us ..We don't go to Kipawa to fish near a crowd !!..was first trip to Big Chute...lots of water but sure that it wasn't close to peak flow as lots of exposed rock..was a really beautiful spot..went in the 8 km road  so walk was less that 5 minutes....enjoy your trip !!

We all know who the dreaded Black Lund is.  He loves to fish right beside u.  Once I asked him if he wanted to sit beside me in my boat.  His favorite trick is to come by you full speed while u are anchored and try and swamp you.  Revenge is around the corner as the big burgundy mirrocraft has come to Laniel to stay lol

Thanks for the report. My friend Mark used to say "weather trumps everything." Sometimes they just turn off.

Update from summer....finally got the place we wanted on Kipawa this past week ...Its on the north end (Laniel ) in the bay just to the left of the entrance to Dorval Bay ...can't upload a picture for some reason...probably due to my limited computer skills...Starting this spring I will be flying a Toronto Maple Leafs flag from the dock....might upset  the local Montreal fans ...oh well... if my boat is at the dock you are welcome to tie up and have a cold  beer with us ....

Hey Goach, How cool is that. welcome to the club. I'm at the extreme east end of the lake it'll take me over an hour to get there, but I've been meaning to come that way for some smallies. Been about 5 years since I've got one. Any ways if your around when I make the trip I'll give you a call.

Congrats @Goach15 that is great news!!
I'm on the lake often and haven't ran for the smallies yet but hopefully this season, will look for the blue and white. Be nice to meet some members.

I too look forward to meeting some fellow board members on the lake...Any smallmouth I catch are incidental when fishing for walleye...don't fish for them on purpose but have found that they are all fat and feisty and always a nice surprise..although they are moving in they don't seem to be affecting the 'eyes...BTW found a honey hole for walleye about 300 feet from from my new place this past summer when cottage scouting..now to find some pike spots and I will be really happy !

the most interesting thing I found about fishing Kipawa full time is that no matter where I explore I always find fish. Best of luck on your new place Goach.
