Noticed on Google a fair-amount of road construction on the QEW between Buffalo/Peace Bridge and St. Catherines, then again on the 400 around Barrie up through Orillia. Any direct experience from someone out here lately? How bad is it?

And, given the 400 North out of Vaughn can be a total cluster on Friday afternoons if you hit it after 2PM, is Route 27 heading north out of Toronto a reasonable / viable alternative?

Thanks.

To be honest, 27 is not a well kept secret.
As soon as 400 gets backed up, 27 get loaded.
If you have to get off at 88 or 89, take the first street west of 400 which is Weston road.
It ends at Essa Road in Barrie.
I have been travelling north on 400 the last few weekend to boat on Lake Simcoe and have not experienced any major construction.
Most of the construction you see is just to the side of the highway and not affecting it at all.
Any bridge work is done at night.

2 P.M. , Friday afternoon at Vaughn......two hour delay to get past Barrie some times.
Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

You also will run into a delay on Highway 11 between 6th and 7th concession of ORO.  This is between Barrie and Orillia.  It runs both north and south down to one lane.  It seems to be okay on the weekends but not during the week
