Mattie

Hello all,

As you can figure out I am new to this board so here is my introduction.

My name is Matt (Known as Mattie to my family and friends) I'm 25 and was born and raised in Columbus Ohio.  Todd (T-bone) or as I call him Uncle Todd is my uncle and I am a part of the Ross crew that goes up to Kipawa. My first trip was in 2001 to Corbeau Lodge when Bernard and Eunice ran it. Immediately I was hooked.  I have been to Corbeau twice, TBL and Alwaki Lodge and outpost multiple times. This year we are staying in Dead Bear Bay at an outpost cabin and I am looking forward to this trip more then ever!!

Back home I work in internet sales at a small distribution center.

My trip to Kipawa means a ton to me each year and I know that I am going to be carrying out the family tradition with my cousin Brady (t-bones son), my brother, and any of our kids one day. With that being said I just wanted to give a special shout out to my Uncle Todd and Marco. They got me completely hooked at a young age and I am very thankful for that. It seems just like yesterday that he was waiting for me on my last day of middle school in my parents driveway and away we went north immediately after i stepped off that bus!

Me being a part of the Ross group obviously mainly target Walleye and really enjoy fishing for pike. I plan i trying a little harder for lake trout this year but have never really "targeted" them so don't be surprised if you see me create a topic focusing on lake trout. ( I do not know much about them but would like to learn).

Other then that back home I mainly fish for bass, catfish and Muskie.

55 days 9 hours and 16 minutes as my countdown clock shows! Man i cant wait to be drinking those ice cold bleues!!!!!

Hi Mattie:
You and the "Ross Crew" are going to love Miwapanee's cabin on Dead Bear Bay. Our group spent 4 nights there May 16 - 20. Our 3rd stay @ the cabin. Don't forget to bring snacks for the "guard" rabbit  8). If you're looking to still fish for lake trout, try the mouth of the 2nd bay on the left side of the cabin. If your marking fish near bottom in 50 - 60 feet of water. Drop anchor. Use a frozen minnow (bought in Quebec & have receipt with you) on a #6 hook, preferably red and large split shot sinker; open a Blue and relax - if you've marked them, they'll cooperate  8). Great way to spend a couple of hours in the afternoon. Have a great trip and Tight Lines
Ray.

600 miles north

Good to have you here Mattie. I always enjoy reading your uncles trip reports and many discussion topics, if you are anything like him this board just got another great asset.

Cheers!
Brad

600 miles north is where I'd rather be!

Mattie

Thank you a lot for the lake trout information. I will be out there trying for them in the afternoon this year. Do you know if you are able to buy frozen minnows at the bait store right before you get to the docks of  Kipawa before we go into camp? I think we were planning on getting some last year but didn't.

Thanks

Hi Mattie:
I'm not sure about the bait store in Kipawa, although I assume they'd have frozen minnows. I know you can get them @ Gingras' Petro-Canda in Temiscaming.

@Mattie welcome and great to have you onboard... you may want to copy and paste your intro here as this seems to be the master intro thread....http://kipawafishingforum.net/index.php?topic=30.0

@TBIRD

I'm just curious if you have ever tried to fish off the dock at the outpost and if so what did you catch or use ? I ask  because I always give it a try during the morning when everyone is sleeping or afternoon when nothing is really going on to see if i can get anything.

Also what is this "guard rabbit" you speck of.

Thanks,

mattie

Hi Mattie:

1st of all I have no idea how to send a "PM"  :o - Until a month ago I thought you folks were asking us to send you our Prime Minister, but I enjoy the US Kipawa family too much to do that! Nancy had to enter my stats for me (thanks again Nancy  :))

We have tried off the dock and also the rock @ the mouth of the bay @ various times of the day - no luck - but who knows it's Kipawa and strange stuff can happen  ;) -  The "guard rabbit" is the resident bunny, who'll be around the cabin dawn til dusk.

Ray.
