Anybody on the board fish this area?

I spend a lot of time not far from the North Channel. Though I don't typically have time to fish up there, my time is usually centered around retriever training but would like to try it sometime!

We are between Thessalon and Blind River :)

Should have a lot of Rainbows up there

Yup, think I need to get a pair of Down riggers :)

I'll be downrigging just south of that this weekend for Salmon

I have a contact of father and son that have a boat on Huron, I sent them a message to see if that is where they fish.  I'll let you know

Sorry Greg, they say they never fish that far on Huron.

Although I've never fished the North Channel, I'm quite familiar with fishing open waters on the great lakes.

In spring, when the water temps are cooler, you should be able to get lakers, salmon and rainbows without downriggers.

In summer, definitely riggers are the preferred method for controlling lure depth while trolling deep water.

Salmon and rainbows can be found in the same waters, however, rainbows can tolerate warmer water temps.
The preferred temps for lakers are colder than salmon and rainbows, but they are occasionally caught in the same waters.

I'd say you also have a chance of hooking muskie, pike, walleye or bass closer to shore around the islands, bays and more sheltered areas. However, just east of Blind River near Serpent or Spanish Rivers is a more ideal area for these species.

Hope this helps !

Hi Greg,

Not exactly between your 2 points but we used to fish Meldrum Bay every summer for 3-4 days.
We'd call Meldrum Bay Inn and find out if the salmon were around, sometimes yes...sometimes no. It depended on how many were stocked in what year
on the US side. I think there was only one hatchery on the Cdn side stocking. If they weren't around, then we had to boat closer to Cockburn Island and Drummond island.
You have to have a big boat cuz sometimes the swells were 10 feet high. You literally disappeared in the swell.
Nevertheless, we always caught something....lakers, browns, salmon etc.

We took a charter our first year to discover where the charters would go then went with our own boat.
There's a nice campground right in MB. We always went in August.
Everybody is a genius.

it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.
