Can any one tell me approx. how many leeches I will get with a pound. I want to order some from Kipawa Bait and Tackle and not sure how many to order. Thanks in advance to anybody that can help me.

Hi caddesigner:

Here's the guideline I use when ordering leeches:

Leech size   Doz. per lb.

Jumbo      8 to 10 dozen

Large      10 to 15 dozen

Medium   16 to 20 dozen

Small      22 to 30 dozen

Generally speaking

A jumbo leech can stretch out to 6 inches.

A large leech can stretch out to 4 1/2 inches.

A medium leech an stretch out to 2 1/2 inches.

A small leech can stretch out to 1 inch.

Our group of four guys prefer to use large leeches and we typically get 2 pounds for a 6 day trip.

Just a guesstimate, but for medium leeches i would say 250 - 300 leeches per pound.  For some reason I am now thinking of spaghetti....

I keep getting tempted to buy leeches...a few times I have thrown a fish carcass in the edge of the lake then picked off the leeches it has worked great.  Do you have to order ahead?

Hi NJ, it depends on how many you want and when you want them. If you just want a few dozen, usually no problem. If you want them at the end of August/early September they're much harder to find. Billy Bob's in North Bay seems to have them later than most. They're also more expensive then, but worth the $ to us. Hope that helps. 3 more days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   Oarin.
