I recall many years ago a forum member from Ohio used to go up to Lac Kipawa very late in the year. Once, he went in over US Thanksgiving in late-November and, coming in from the Kipawa, they had to break through thin ice in some parts of their trek toward MacKenzie Island.

Given that reference date is less than 2-weeks from now, is there any evidence of the lake getting ready to ice up yet? I've been looking at lake webcams from NW and Central Ontario and they seem to be no closer to ice now than in July.

Stu or others...any insights?

Thanks.

We are nowhere near ice on the lake. I left camp on Saturday and highs are sill in the upper single digits. Barely going below freezing even at night. Looking at the long range forecast It doesn't look like we'll see any ice til December. I was talking to a neighbour yesterday, he was wondering if I was still at camp. He is still fishing most days.
Days spent fishing don't count against life :)

Was up at camp this weekend past, our little pond has a thin skiff of ice, but the pond is very small and freezes up much faster than larger bodies of water like Kipawa. I agree with puckster, unless the temperatures dip, it will be a while yet.....
