I have fished the central lake areas near Kipawa lodge, Alwaki lodge and the old Turtle lodge I have been scouting a Navionic's chip map pre-planning a June return trip and wondering if anyone would provide me with any cautionary concerns of the water depths and rocks traveling north the 5-6 miles of water from Turtle Island. My Kipawa map shows the water narrowing for 3/4 of mile prior to entering Lac Hunter.  ?'s = What is the average water depth in this narrows? Is this rapids or slow moving water? If continuing to Hunters Point,  is  the water passable on the west, north and east sides?  My map shows narrowing of water all around the point.  I enjoy fishing the Turtle chutes because of the depth and the moving water. I would appreciate any comments comparing the Hunters Point narrowing waters with the Turtle chute waters?  Thanks

T-Bone

You can run full speed all the way up to the church at Lac Hunter...I think it may get as low as a few feet nearer the sides of the channel near the bridge where it skinnies-down, but it's 10+ feet deep through the middle. At least that's what we've seen when fishing that area. It's calm water (unless the wind is humming down that direction out of the north)...it's nothing like running through Turtle Chutes in the spring.

We're heading up in June too; where you staying?

Thanks T-Bone for a fast response. I actually have been fishing Kipawa lake for 50+years. Many memories of my brother, Dad and I falling a sleep dragging worm harnesses in the old leaking birch rental boats from Turtle lodge. Went thru 2 owners at Turtle and they quit renting cabins and we moved onto White Birch. Have gone thru 2 owners there as well but as of the last few years they have not renting their cabins. I have become friends with the corporate owners and so I do get special treatment letting me stay there. I do have to rough it a little but hey, I am up there to fish. I have stayed at Alwaki and Wayne and Barb at Kipawa lodge are great people. I trailer a 21 foot boat from Kitty Hawk NC and have been solo the past 3 years. My Dad and brother are still in my boat if you get my point?  My fishing has progressed from warm harnesses, to Hot-n-Tots, to jigging, to now night fishing throwing plugs to rocky shallow shores. I have made friends with 3 guys from Beverly Oh. I have noticed so many fisherman in this forum are from PA and OH. Again thanks for the information. I am not aware of a church or a bridge since I have never ventured that far north.  The furthest north was to the bottom end of the Audion river which is the narrowing that runs out of Lac Hunters Point
