Hi everyone:

While I've never fished Lac Ostabonique, it's a lake on our list of contender locations. The bathymetric maps for Ostabonique depict lots of walleye looking structure. While  I have reviewed  the posts on trips into Lac Ostabonique, I was wondering whether anyone would share more of their first hand information. I'm not seeking "spot and the spot" locations but rather the kind of information that assists fishermen in deciding to try a lake or return to a lake.

For instance, four of us fished Lac Kikwissi in Sep 2013 and while we came home with our walleye limits, we have decided not to return. While the outfitter was very personable, the accommodations were more than satisfactory, the boats and motors were satisfactory, and there was lots of walleye structure, we just didn't mark enough fish to warrant another trip. We're believers in that old adage that 80% of the fish are in 20% of the water and we work hard trying to establish where that 20% of the water is. Our group of four guys are generally satisfied with a walleye trip if we've collectively managed to boat 200 or more walleye in a week. Size wise, we're happy with an average size of 18 inches. We don't target northern pike, so the presence of northerns isn't an issue for us (even though we enjoy catching  the odd northern while we're walleye fishing). We like lakes with lake trout because usually they are good to eat and their presence indicates deep water basins.

Consequently. I have a few questions with respect to Lac Ostabonique.

Have your sonar units shown lots of fish?
Have your sonar units depicted lots of bait in the lake?
Have the walleye you have caught indicated that most year classes are represented?
Have the stomachs of harvested walleye usually contained baitfish?
Is there perch in Ostabonique?
What would be the average size of walleye caught in Ostabonique?
Have you caught lake trout in Ostabonique?

Thanks in advance.

If you would prefer sending me a PM rather than responding on the board, that's OK with me. I don't mind sharing information on Lakes I have fished via PM either.
